I agree that blatant persecution is wrong... all it does is win sympathy and reinforces the JWs persecution complex.

The only way to get rid of a harmful cult is through education. You must educate the masses and let them decide by their own reasoning abilities that the WTS is wrong.

um the world must be coming to an end cuz I'm about to agree with the Sakllywag...*LOL* If they want to exist in certain places then they have to play the games and make nice with the governments.....they already know this...look at the Malawi/Mexico thing...anyway, I was thinking there were probably some unpiad bribes and local officials who went without getting their palms greased...maybe even for use of the stadium and its facilities. Just a guess. This is also another reason they will probably do poorly if they ever get their self righteous paws on countries like China.

I hate to be cynical, but I think Outnfree has a point about the WTBTS making a ``cause celeb' by deliberately scheduling an event in a region known for its vehement opposition, especially when there are other options to hold conventions in more tolerant areas. They leave it to their pawns to take the heat; all in the interests of showing ``the world hates God's people," or to provoke a legal showdown, I wonder whether any GB member was assigned there as a guest speaker.

The real issue here is ..Where was JEHOVER during this...they were touching his eyeball and he was busy somewhere else.

He had all the angels busy helping out in the preaching work and forgot about Russia.

And don't ask me to pray for them...I'm still praying for God to protect children from various dangers and he's even to busy for that.

I agree minus.... All this will do is make the families of JW who are NOT JW)become JWs -because it is the persecution( they think) that they have been waiting for....And since they have been warning about this kind of action it will be another prophecy ???they will believe coming true. Yes !!!those of you who DO pray ...Please keep them in prayer.

I'm glad I live in a country that allows religous freedom. That's a shame that they are intolerant in Russia, kind of reminds me of some on this board...

One would think the Society would be more concerned about feeding the sheep by making sure to take the conventions elsewhere, instead of once again banging its head against the brick wall of Stavropol officialdom to feed its martyr complex!!! But, noooooooo....

The police block entry to their convention after the site was rented and you want to blame the WT? Get over yourself. This is religous intolerance, no matter how stupid the religion is. You start shifting the blame from the persecutor to the victim and you are just as guilty of religous intolerance.

When the Office of Public Information of Jehovah's Witnesses issues such a press release, who is their target audience? And what is their goal? By their behaviors, they go out of their way to make people not like them, so why do they complain when they are not liked? Didn't they get what they wanted?

If Jehovah's organization (read corporation) issues a press release to those outside the organization, isn't that press release made to Satan's organization? It must be, who else is left? Why would Jehovah's organization issue a press release to Satan's organization? What am I missing? GaryB

    Jehovah's Witnesses lose rental agreements

STAVROPOL CITY AUTHORITIES PROHIBIT JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES CONGRESS
    Portal-credo.ru, 1 September 2003

On 30 August the head of the administration of Stavropol, Sergei Kobylkin, forbade the director of the Labor Union Palace of Culture, Gennady Levin, and the organizers of a congress planned by the Jehovah's Witnesses to conduct this event, citing an order by the mayor regarding conducting mass events at times of heightened danger of terrorist acts. The Palace of Culture had been rented for the weekend for holding a summer regional congress of Jehovah's Witnesses. After standing in the street for several hours the Jehovists, of whom over 1,000 had gathered, dispersed around 1:00 p.m.

As the director of the centralized religious organization of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia, Vasily Kalin, told a "Portal-credo.ru" correspondent, the local religious organization intends to file suit in court against the management of the Stavropol Palace of Culture and Sport for having unilaterally violated the conditions of the rental agreement. Vasily Kalin reported also that a circus had been rented for the previous weekend for the same purposes. The management of the circus refused to extend the agreement for this weekend.
