We have a plant here that employs a bunch of people, customizing Hummers. Arizona has many of the off-road vehicles.

Vettes are sexy, fast, fun to drive cars. I would love to have one.

I'm not a biker, but I can understand the appeal of motorcycling - the freedom, the wind in your hair, etc.

But for the life of me I can't understand the appeal of a Hummer. I giggle when I see people driving around in something that is just so much wretched excess. Why don't you have "I am an unthinking slave to consumer culture, I am not able to create an identity for myself apart from my wasteful possessions" tattoo'd across your forehead.

Well, you need to take a ride out here in the desert sometime..... they are handy here. I am sure there are folks out there that figure a Vette is a waste too, all that power and only 2 seats.... it is all reletive. The press is trying to do to Hummers what they did to Corvairs and 3-wheelers.

Love the H-1, hate the H-2. The original hummer was a valid military vehicle. The H-2 is ugly, & poorly designed for off road use. I have a similar problem w/ Cadillac escalades & Lincoln navigators, in that they are mainly for looks & likely will not be used for off road, which is silly IMHO. But, everybody has that right in this country, & I do like my 61-69 suicide door lincoln continentals, which have at least a 430 ci. motor. Ive had three. Love 'em. So, maybe I'm a hypocrite.

I agree that some people might have a need for such a vehicle.

Believe me, people living in Columbus Ohio have no need for a Hummer. It is a vanity purchase at it's plainest. The vehicle of choice for drug dealers anxious to establish themselves as the BIG DOG.

Thats sorta like saying a guy in Alaska has no use for a $30,000 chopper (motorcycle), since it could only be ridden a few months out of the year.

The press needs someone, or a group, to pick on. It used to be "soccer moms in minivans". now its SUV's. I dont care either way, I am too cheap to buy a Hummer.

I'm all for splurging on a car to make driving more enjoyable. If some people like the Hummer, more power to 'em.
