Why Do People Try To Defend The Watchtower or JW's In General?

Some of the detractors go overboard, even to the point of supporting or starting totally unsubstantiated claims (OK: rumors).

There are those of us who prefer fairness and accuracy to a fouled denunciation. So, we speak out against the faulty claim.

In the bargain, we may be accused as "Watchtower/JW Apologists". This is shortsighted.

In the long run, it is better to NOT HAVE TO BECOME AN APOLOGIST FOR THE XJW's.

To think that JW's should be defended HERE is senseless! And why support a JW way of thinking if you won't follow what they expect from you? To get on this forbidden board and play Devil's advocate produces nothing.

Because everyone is defendable. Everyone has acceptable ways of thinking, including JWs. So when a false or inaccurate statement is made about JWs, I feel compelled to correct it or defend the correct position of JWs. What does it produce? Hopefully a more balanced viewpoint of those I discuss it with, or if I'm the one who is wrong, a more balanced viewpoint by me. To get on this board and ask endless questions as thread topics is pointless and produces nothing, but you do it because you enjoy it. Not much different.

Amac, give me an example of your 'work'.

That statement is, quite frankly, indefensible.

I have no 'work.' Don't get me wrong in thinking that I feel I am here to set people straight, I am not, I have no work and am not on any mission. But a healthy discussion needs two sides to it, otherwise it can get carried away. Sometimes I think I'm right, sometimes I get corrected.

But if you are sincerely curious of my 'work' then go here... http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/11/55121/802465/post.ashx#802465

I don't know how to post to the proper thread so that will have to do.

amac, I looked at that thread and agree that posters can make a mountain out of a molehill. Generalizations and unfairrness may result. So it seems that you want to be the guardian of fairness, huh? If someone says,"All JW's are guilty of child abuse", you want to make sure that this stands corrected. I guess that's better than asking a bunch of endless questions.

I'm definately EX JW, but sometimes I'll defend them when I see things that I know are wrong. People tend to generalize about JWs and some of those generalizations aren't even the norm. For instance, if somebody said all (or even most) of JWs were pedophiles, that would be wrong and I'll step in to defend them of that charge.

If you don't set people straight, it leads to misperceptions and stereotypes that will probably do more harm than good.
