THE GOSPEL OF THE NATIVITY OF MARY

    From Chapter 1

Their life was guileless and right before the Lord, and irreproachable and pious before men. For they divided all their substance into three parts. One part they spent upon the temple and the temple servants; another they distributed to strangers and the poor; the third they reserved, for themselves and the necessities of their family. Thus, dear to God, kind to men, for about twenty years they lived in their own house, a chaste married life, without having any children. Nevertheless they vowed that, should the Lord happen to give them offspring, they would deliver it to the service of the Lord; on which account also they used to visit the temple of the Lord at each of the feasts during the year.

ok so whats wrong with this picture?

Do you mean how it refers to their family and yet states they have no children? Its probably reffering to their next of kin, sisters, brothers, mom/dad etc.

Having no sex? (for 20 yrs?)

If they have children, they have to "give" the child to the lord?

    I'm very curious.......

    chaste

    1. [adj] morally pure especially not having experienced sexual intercourse; "a holy woman innocent and chaste"
    2. [adj] abstaining from unlawful sexual intercourse
    3. [adj] pure and simple in design or style; "a chaste border of conventionalized flowers"

    ya,

They waited for 20 years hoping and waiting and praying to get pregnant by the Lord? OK. Say they did. At what point in time EXACTLY did they decide they were going to wait for the Lord? On thier wedding night? They are just married and alone for the first time and then the Lord interupted them and said: "NO, don't do that"! And they said : "OK" for 20 years?

That the Christians gave to the Temple? Not so surprising actually. The Ebionite Christians (considered by many to be the original sect lead by James)were keepers of the Law and loyal to the Priesthood. It wasn't until Pauline Mystery Christianity was artificially merged with this Jewish sect under the the authority of the Roman Church (and the subsequent rewrite of the Jesus and Christian stories in the NT)that Jews and their worship began to be viewed as apostate and rebellious.

peacefulpete, I'm afraid my question was not quite that intellectual, but in a way it is relevant to my question, I think. Are you saying the story of Mary and Joseph, as well as many others, were exaggerated?

and the subsequent rewrite of the Jesus and Christian stories in the NT)that Jews and their worship began to be viewed as apostate and rebellious.

Weren’t they always considered in the very least rebellious and often apostate even among themselves?

    2. [adj] abstaining from unlawful sexual intercourse

Married intercourse is chaste and lawful. It does not mean that they were celebate.
