what kind of abuse is this? how can a child at 5 know what they want? I am in my 30's and still do not know what I want in a religion.I know what I dont want.It is a shame, but it is still about control.Like someone mentioned, their numbers are dropping and they are grabbing at anyone to join this cult.Regaurdless of their age.Really, can a 5 year old hold a bible study?anyone with a brain must be able to see that a 5 year old belongs in public school not the WTBS.Pleassse....I feel this is ABUSE!Pending whether the story is true or not...

I knew somebody like that. Baptised at 7. It really screwed them up, but they stayed a dub. A truly miserable person, a real waste of a beautiful life.

I was baptized when I was 10 ... not a very bright youngster, but I soon grew up to realize my tragic mistake!

I don't doubt it....my neice read at 3, and wanted to be baptized when she was 6 or 7..can't remember which...but WAY too young. They made her wait.

I myself got baptized at 14, but only because my father, "super" elder, told me that if I didn't get baptized at the next assembly, he'd have to step down as an elder.

What a load of ****, but he guilted me into it. Bet he wishes he didn't now.

hi this sounds just like the little girl they "used" at the last District Convention in San Diego I thought it was pitiful. The parents and all involved should have been ashamed of themselves. To exploit and mess up thre mind of one so young shame shame on them. Buff

The thing here is, that there is nothing like the pride of a parent when you're a kid. Parents abuse this when they allow their kids to offically join a religion that they cannot comprehend.

I was 12 when I got dunked, and I did it for the wrong reasons...to impress my parents and friends. That's all. Stupid, really stupid.

I think it is possible that some portions may be embellished - like playing 'telephone', what comes out at the end may only slightly resemble what was originally said. For all we know, the experience started out saying that this little girl sets up all her stuffed animals and has bible studies with them and it morphed into "conducting" real bible studies because that is much more impressive and can offer a chance to shame an adult with the thought that if a 5 year old can hold a bible study, then there must be something seriously wrong with all the grown ups out there who aren't chalking up the numbers and reeling innocent people into the lair.

A child can't comprehend what a lifetime commitment means or possibly make a decision as to what they want to do with their life. I remember when I was younger, next MONTH was an impossibly long ways away, never mind a lifetime. Even as an adult, it is sometimes hard to fathom what a lifetime really means, although the years are passing much faster now!

I have not read all the posts on this already 3 page thread, but I find this to be suspect.

OK, it's fun to give the JWs the gears, but I can't say in recent memory....ok, 20 years ago, they were allowing 5 year olds to get baptized.

I have a very hard time believing this story.

    Period.
