Christianity began as a doomsday cult.

Jesus got it wrong; Mark 9.1. Having found a group of believers who don't mind disappointment, those holding the reigns of the cult back then kept the illusion going--it was in their interests to use the "end time hype" to strengthen their powerful superstition. After the Roman church assimilated all the prevailing cults and brought them under the one Catholic umbrella, the church itself became the authority-- not the Bible, its leader the Pope claiming divine right to be the vicar of Christ i.e. his deputy.

However at the Reformation in Europe the scripturalists (my word) arose and broke away from the Catholic faith taking the Bible literally as the word of God. This allowed the "imminent end of the world" party to form again.

The mainspring which drives the power train of Jehovah's Witnesses is "end times hysteria". To keep it going, like all clockwork, it has to be rewound frequently.

Punkofnice - It was your fault for not accepting that you misunderstood them, it's obvious that they were going to have new light on the matter. How is it obvious you ask? The simple fact that it didn't occur then has made that evident.

They can change their mind on anything and still be right.

If 1914 was correct and Matt. 24 had a 2nd fulfillment the end would have came in the mid 1950's

So how can the average JW prepare for this?

    1. They should all buy houses with basements! Because how can you move into the bunker/basement unless you have one.

    2. They must go to every meeting so that when the day comes when they are told what the secret knock is to get into someone else basement/bunker they will know it, other wise they might be outside where they will be "weeping and gashing their teeth"

    3. Stay busy! As the bumper sticker says "Get busy God is coming and he is pissed!"

They admit that they cannot give a date so instead they have basically sectionalized the last days.

    Why not?

You've got overlapping generations, why not overlapping last days?

I'm waiting for the study article that reads "we are now well into the 2nd century of the last days...."

The WTS has based its literature proliferation by exploiting the bible in particularly the writings of Revelation which in reality is fictional ancient mythology.

It is essentially a fear mongering apocalyptic publishing house that exploits fear and human ignorance, this activity creates both money and power for a few self endeavoring "corrupt" men.

The thing that the pubs are not picking up is a buzz word- must!..... Because so much time has passed, we MUST be living in the last days! They do not know, they have NEVER KNOWN, They are no different than 5 people and I sitting around the table and discussing some aspects of the Bible and drawing out something that they can make a study lesson out of to keep pubs in a scared, believing all things, mindset' This information has been repeated almost word for word for years. The idea that all anointed will be gone off earth and then the boys of the elder school will lead - lead who? There will be pandemonium according to scripture, Where would you run to find any elder-- we do not see any at shepherding calls or receive a concerned phone call from them, even in a hurricane or blizzard situation right now.. I am sure they will be looking out for their own ass when the time comes, not ours.

(too busy today to check spelling--got "reins" wrong earlier!)

But here's the point: Yes folks it is the last days indeed -- for the JW organisation.

As the membership already come more and more from third world countries and the KH selling continues, it will get smaller and poorer. With the less educated comes less money. The more who wake up the more it will encourage others to do so and leave. When it has sold everything and the religion has become a pay as you watch, neurotic last days cliff hanger, they will beg on their TV channel for money but eventually it will just have to sputter to a grinding halt.

    Or am I just dreaming?
