I used to work afternoon shifts and stayed up for hours afterward. At that time I drank about 20 cups of coffee a day and smoked 2 1/2 packs of cigarettes a day. This went on for over 2 years, until I developed serious stomach problems. I'm down to one cup of coffee a day now, and one pack of cigarettes. I had some bad headaches at first when I cut back on the coffee, but they're gone now. I was also very difficult to live with, as my temper was very short. It took about 6 months until my temperment got back to normal.

I can't have caffeine anymore... makes my heart race. A good freshly brewed cup of decaf is just as good as the caffeinated version, IMO. I actually drink coffee for the taste, not the caffeine, so maybe that is why it makes no difference to me which is a good thing since I don't have a choice anymore. Just stay away from instant! Gawd that stuff is nasty!

If you really want to kick the caffeine habit, don't just quit cold turkey, or the headaches will be unbearable. Start by adding a little decaf to the mix of regular and every few days replace more of the regular coffee with decaf. In a few weeks, you will be on all decaf, and won't have to go through all the withdrawl symptoms.

    I am a coffee drinker.

My routine is nothing special, but it always includes at least 2 huge cups of Nabob coffee, a heaping spoon of Demerera sugar, and Coffee Mate liquid soy whitener. Mmm!

But I have had caffiene withdrawl, and man oh man, the headaches from that, are horrendous.

But yes, I'd say I'm a caffiene addict.

I drink about 2 cups in the morning and occassionally one at night if there is any cake or pie to eat. I don't think I am addicted but I haven't tried not drinking any for awhile. I can't feel any effects of drinking it but I haven't tried not drinking it. I'm sitting here now with a cup. I just read in an advertisement for a book that said it caused cancer, but I guess anything you do causes cancer according to someone's opinion. If coffee doesn't kill you old age will, so why worry so much about it.

I remember reading somewhere that if you don't use a paper filter when brewing coffee, that certain carcinogens don't get strained out.

Dan, I used to drink coffee by the pot, instead of by the cup.....then I found out that my blood sugar level (along with my irritability level) was being adversely affected by the amount of caffeine I was taking in....so I mistakenly attempted to stop coffee cold turkey....WRONG! .....major migraines resulted for DAYS.....I went back to coffee and did some more studying on the subject.....then I slowly tapered off till I drink perhaps 3 to 4 cups a day (5 cups is tops)....more than that affects my blood sugar....and it took tapering off by subtracting the amount I drank at certain times of the day, cup by cup....that's the safe way to do it...
