I think think the religion is like a bad drug problem.....When your leaving, the withdraws are unbearable, but once past that, your drug free....

They did not "love the ministry, love the work". If a dedicated Witness preached to make God happy, they've been scammed. If God really wanted the preaching work to be successful, he certainly wouldn't have chosen JW's to perform a "life-saving work" that would be impossible to perform....Think about it!

Come on Minimus, on that basis would he have sent his son Jesus?... He was hardly popular was he, didn't he get put to death after all ? yet did God love him or not approve any less or think his message was not preached as he would wish. Jesus was certainly NOT popular. Yet wasn't he involved in the "life saving work" too?....Think about it.

and remember as well, the disciples Jesus' own brothers were scared before men. Didn't one who had even seen all that He could perform. deny him as was foretold, not once but 3 times?

The basis for Christ's death was to save mankind "through one man". To correlate Jesus' death and importance for life to the preaching of a handful of JW's to possibly save the "world of mankind" is ridic. If God felt that he NEEDED to have a life-saving message preached so that the "inhabited earth" could have a chance for life, this is the most ineffective way to preach. Remember, God can use the "stones to cry out" if he wanted to. There are more stones on this earth than puny Witnesses. Think about it......Hey, I like that!

There is only one role, one job for a good JW. It does not matter what his or her talents might be. Jamming all people in to a single role is NOT Christian. Even first century christians performed many acts of service that were equally honored. Like serving tables, sewing clothes, hosting travellers, and on and on. Romans 12:4-8

My pastor told this story last weekend:

Duck, enrolled in Animal School where everyone had to take running, climbing, swimming and flying - for ease of system administration, you see.

Duck was a champion swimmer who flew quite well too, but his instructor was bent on proving that waddlers can sprint as well.

So Duck studied and practised hard, till his webbed feet were all blistered and so sore he could hardly swim.

Or Rabbit, who was the best runner around but an inept swimmer.

Because of his poor swimming grades, he went into prolonged psychotherapy for low self-esteem.

Then there was Squirrel, who was required to climb from the ground up instead of leaping across tree tops.

Trying too hard, he strained his groin, so he got bad grades for both climbing and running.

Or Eagle, who soared on rising hot air currents, but was penalised for not flapping enough as the curriculum required.

Came graduation day, Snapping Turtle was judged the best achiever - he swam well, ran okay, and was able to pass flying class by making his dives off high rocks look somewhat like flying.

Moral: System-friendly systems do not get the best from their people.

I know I never loved it. As a matter of fact I always hated service. When I went, it was because I felt forced to. I never minded talking to people on the side but only if the subject came up.

I may be wrong but it seems to me in Rutherford's time they had a period of time where they would paint bible texts and comments (religion is a snare and a racket etc) on large rocks by the roadside. They then used this scripture to claim fufillment of bible prophecy. Was this just something I renember locally or was it part of the preaching work at that time????

    Maybe you're right Minimus.

I could not begin to second guess Jehovahs way. I guess we only have Biblical history to see how He used his people to get his message across. Before Pharoah, Moses was weak, before the community of his time Noah must have appeared weak, and later, the generation of Jesus, despite drawing crowds, eventually the majoritry saw him as weak and had him put to death. Who knows how God works today, we only have a pattern to follow from history.
