Witnesses really hate it when you appear to leave.

Just make sure you get her a christmas card :D

I always sneak a little bit of tinsel into my Mother's house at xmas and hang it somewhere she'll find it later. Gives me a perverse pleasure and she does see the funny side.

It's a free country, you're free to leave a religion, and their own website CLAIMS that people can leave at any time.

I mean, it's not a cult, now, is it?

Anything a cult puts in claim, like the one you mentioned above is to be taken in context with the belief. Is like the following statement coming from an alcoholic...

"I won't drink anymore.... or any less, just the same"

In the case of the cults, the second part of the phrases are always omitted. The statement is not untruthful, is just incomplete. This way, outsiders and insiders can read it and accept it as truth but interpret it their own ways and both can be happy with what they read. Here is what I believe to be a few other incomplete assertions from the WT. Many of which, I believe, are grossly ignored or remain unmentioned, even by strong opposers of this cult. The part between parenthesis are the parts that are left out to interpretation or belief.

    - Abuse victims have a right to go to the authorities (but we have a right to DF you for doing so if you have no second witness)

    - Blood, beards, attire, entertainment choices are a matter of consciousness (The GB consciousness that is)

    - WT never claimed that non-JW will be killed during Armageddon (we just stated that they still have a chance to become one. No one has to die over this, if they do what we say)

    - We don't make collections! (That's right! we don't pass a contribution plate, we make YOU go to the plate, the one towards the entrance of the KH. That is the way to show submission! Bringing the plate to you would be spoiling you!)

    - We definitely do charitable work! (but we are firm believers that charity starts at home!)

    add your own...

    Schnell,

The 'Awakened' class loves it when others are able to break free and we wish them well.

The reaction I get from my brother whenever I try and be normal like handing him coffees and sandwiches at my uncles funeral is absolute blazing anger. He seems so angry with me and yet I don't even try to phone him anymore and I certainly don't 'apostate' at him. I am doing nothing to him at all yet all this rage.

My feeling is they get really angry because we've got away and they haven't. We're free and happy, they hate that. We should be miserable, living in poverty and having a terrible life.

One thing you have to be aware of is how JWS will try to darken a person's character toward those who leave, such as he or she just wants to do what worldly people do like have immoral promiscuous sex, homosexuality, drugs, smoking maybe even get into politics.

Satan lured him into his system of things.

Another aspect is the forwarding comparison to how happy and successful you are, your not supposed be happy or live a clean wholesome life and they will look into that with scrutiny. I've even heard JWS creating false information as means to support a demeaning characterization onto people.

    Oh god, preach.

I have 2 brothers. One is disfellowshipped (Call him Agent K), the other is now a super-duper JW (Agent J).

Agent K texted Agent J and I a picture of our old house. I replied positively, like hey cool. Agent J railed on him and proclaimed that he is the greatest of us and that he has become the son our Father knew him to be, how DARE he text him while disfellowshipped!!! (???) Agent K told me this, I said exactly what should be said: "Fuck him."

Well actually its the religion that makes these distinctly separate identifiers onto ones who leave the cult.

If you ain't a devout JWS your shit, your immoral, unrighteous and worse unloyal to Jehovah, so you deserve to be killed at Armageddon.

Agent J sounds like an asshole to the extreme, all full self righteous arrogance and all that.

If people can leave at will, live normal lives, and suffer little fallout (or aren't affected by JW-manufactured fallout), the whole house of cards will rapidly come crumbling down. Deep down inside the Witnesses know it and are infuriated by success stories such as yours.

Fear keeps JWs at meetings. Fear keeps JWs going out to service. Without that fear, you'd only be left with a smaller group of people who use the religion to satisfy their own ego and power cravings only with a greatly reduced flock whom they can exploit.

It's funny because when I first left JWs said some awful things about me. I graduated college, got married(stayed married), have a great job etc. they can't hold me up as an example of what happens to you if you leave. My own siblings are hateful for no reason, they look sad and tired. I am happy and it makes them crazy.
