Witnesses really hate it when you appear to leave.

You know when they really rejoice? When someone leaves, or when someone picks a non-believer for marriage, and then they do horribly.

There are these beautiful couple of young sisters that went outside the JWs to pick their men. One of them to this day continues to get beatings by her husband, she seems so unhappy and trapped by this bully, and the other one got beatings and also the bum ended up leaving her and the small kids for another woman.

Oh, there were some JWs that just enjoyed their misery and use them as an example for other young ones not to go outside the religion or that will happen.

Too bad so many leave and then give credence to the saying "throwing the baby out with the bath water".😕

Just maintain your dignity and poise. Be the same nice person you always have been.

It messes with their heads when we are nice!

Doubtfully yours - that is sooooo true. They love it when things go badly for someone who has left. Without realizing that the reason some do poorly or make poor choices is because they are il-equipped to deal with losing everyone and everything. When you don't implode - they don't quite know what to do. Except giving you dirty looks when they see you 😀

A JW child grows up and gets into an abusive relationship, you say?

It's just the silly game they play where they think they can send you thought waves of guilt and shame by their mere presence plus a dirty look in case you are in doubt about your status as something gross that needs to be scraped off the bottom of their shoe.

Just have a big smile and a loud "top of the mornin to ya Miss Sally. Nice weather we're havin. You have yourself a great day now. Gotta run, see you next time."

That will really piss her off or it will break the ice either way win win.

What gets me is that Witnesses really really hate it when they see someone leave. I understand, having been in, but this awkward frustration is so artificial and unnecessary. It's a free country, you're free to leave a religion, and their own website CLAIMS that people can leave at any time.

I mean, it's not a cult, now, is it?

I think that there are different emotions lingering around her when she sees you. My guesses are:

    • Perplexed; you are not supposed to look happy and well balanced
    • Cautious; if you still look happy and well balanced, that's supposed to change; she may be expecting for you to show your "true evil, son of Satan side", or she may be expecting you to try to convince her of joining you in "the world".
    • Afraid; as a JW, did she get to see you preaching, or in a meeting, or a convention? She may not know the degree of involvement you had in your congregation. She may think that you were disfellowshipped and she's supposed to treat you certain way if you were, as opposed to the way a non-baptized person who leaves is supposed to be treated
    • Angry at you - if she's a zealous JW, for you leaving her Jehovah
    • Angry at herself - if she's not a zealous JW, for her not leaving her stupid Jehovah
    • Confused - She may have limited information about you and she may not know what to make of your behavior

Either way, the effect of the cult is perfectly evident and present. If you notice, all her feelings are severely influenced by the WT.

@scratchme1010, naturally. I see that in her case, my friend's case, and in both of my brothers to differing extents.

    It's that damn beard, Schnell!

I can't tell you how many guys in the bOrg want a beard, but can't have one. A lot of sisters like them too. (Same goes for tattoos.)

BUT - they have to act all "loyal" (oh man I hate that word these days) and be all superior to you because you have left and have a beard and are happy and they are just sad and bitter.

Mr. Spiral has a beard too, it's quite handsome. I am certain yours is too.

Living well is the best revenge!

The JW community also hates it when you are successful in your post-JW life. Remember that living a successful life is the greatest revenge.

A number of Sisters seem quite good at growing one.
