Politics is taking over again

    I think it's getting a bit much.

Please remember that while we dont mind some discussion of current affairs, we are not intending to be a political discussion forum.

I'm getting especially tired seeing some people making insulting and dismissive remarks and just posting dogma and propaganda. Worse still, it seems some people are *only* interested in posting on political threads and nothing else. Let me make it clear - that is not why we're here and if that is the only reason that you are here you will find the number of posts you have will be limited.

This of course goes for both sides.

Simon the last time you complained about all the politics here you managed to post on all those threads. This time you've held off on saying anything on them. I don't believe I've ever started a political thread but I find it difficult to leave them alone. Anyway props to you for leaving them alone.

Honestly I don't see a reason for a political thread to exist on this website. People here aren't exactly well informed anyway and if I wanted intelligent comments I would be posting on sites which feature politics. Many users here are extremly well informed on religion, more than I am.

Why not just ban the topic here? They seem to be the ugliest threads that occur.

I don't think banning is feasible. People want to and should be able to discuss current events and express their views. It's just some people take it to an extreme and become fixated with it and nothing else.

It would be very hard to make a clear rule of exactly what a political thread is ... one of those "I know it when I see it" things.

These threads get ugly because of how polarized everthing is...we agree on religion (at least, which one we can't stand), but politics is black and white with most...we've forgotten how to debate in this country, too (although I fess I have no clue how it's done in England)

Simon: Expect some sick political traffic here next Nov....

Can we get a list of acceptable topics so we know what to avoid in future?

    Auww Starfish,

Now that was sarcastic, wasn't it.

Its not that limiting. Lets just try to focus on JW issues. No one is saying something is forbidden. Just trying to stay focused.

    Simon,

IMHO, it's not so much that the topics themselves are ... ummm ... unwelcoming ... it's just that there are a few who can morph these topics into something personal very quickly. I'm no saint, (of course, the Pope probably hasn't gotten to my nomination paperwork yet! ) but I think if there were a rule which disallowed name calling and insults and everyone knew it was going to be enforced, perhaps it could nip this problem in the bud.

    Phantom -

    in the ToU?

What is the ToU? I might not officially be a newbie anymore, but sometimes I sure feel like one! Right now would be on of them!

    Thanks for the translation!

ToU = Terms of Use, the stuff you have to agree to everytime you post. (No insulting language, no swearing, etc.)
