Politics is taking over again

People here aren't exactly well informed anyway and if I wanted intelligent comments I would be posting on sites which feature politics.

Right there I believe is the problem.

Intelligent debate from adults while showing respect, I see no problem. Some people can't accept any other possibillity than there own view, and therefore feel the need to insult others.

Stacey, people here aren't exactly well informed? By your standards ? Check yourself young lady, examine what you just said. If you meant to insult evreryone here, then you just may have.

I know you and you alone are the resident expert on political thought, but I would hope you would consider the masses as you bring forth your expert edicts.

Simon , maybe you should implement some sort of IQ test that we should all have to pass before becoming a member.

This may please our more intelligent and experienced members (like Stacey), I mean, we don't want them to have to deal with political neophytes like myself, it really could spoil there evening.

Simon, if you want to x out the political debate, that is your perogative. I would understand.

But when you look at the variety of what else is going on on this site, I think it is fairly balanced.

Remember, as dubs, politics was a no no. So maybe we are making up for lost time.

Hi Simon, It seems prudent to caution everyone about the political discussions. Especially during a war (situation) when there's a lot of polarization. I seldom go on those threads any more because of the insulting and name-calling.

Hi LastCall, I really agree with you that a lot of ex-JWs are trying to make up for lost time with regards to politics. I think it's very important for discussion to take place, but that doesn't seem to happen on a discussion board as well as in person.

Certain topics are always heated. Political debates don't interest me personally, but I'd hate to see topics like that banned just because people have strong feelings. What's next? Evolution vs Creation?

I frequent the rec.music.dylan newsgroup and hey! guess what! almost all of the threads there have to do with Bob Dylan and his music! Isn't that strange!

Sometimes political threads develop there too, because posters have developed a rapport or friendship. But other posters generally tell these guys to take their political discussion to a political newsgroup.

    Fair enough too I think.......

This board is perhaps a little different, as it somehow acts as a "halfway house", a "surrogate Kingdom Hall" perhaps, for recovering alcoholics, I mean, recovering ex-JW's, but I still think the political threads don't belong here. Unless of course Russia, who as we all know really, is still the King of the North, invades America and kicks George's southern butt. That could be a crossover thread for sure.

Just my 536,233 Turkish Lira's worth......

Good point, Pope! This board has a theme and that's ex-JW-related stuff. It functions kind of like AA, as you implied, a half-way house, for exiters. At AA, et al, the discussions tend to stay on track, and while this isn't nearly so focused, it could be compared to that loosely.

OMG! You're not seriously suggesting that the political threads be subdued, are you people!? There are plenty of other topics here for those who do not want to involve themselves in politics, but I for one, though I may not comment often, learn a great deal from the political threads. As someone in this thread has already mentioned, we JWs were prohibited from politics and all such discussions for so long...it seems completely natural and even necessary for a thriving political content to be part of an xjw board!

I thought it was JW related stuff, not so much ex.

    Tasmanian Overbeer,

its quite simple: no political threads and no threads about apples, thats all you have to remember.

I sometimes look at the political threads to see what people think but I stopped commenting on them some time back. The level of discourse generally isn't something I want to participate in. I'm here to discuss religious topics, particularly JW's. I have political boards I visit to talk politics.
