Scooby my friend, while it is true that most "true believers" of evolution may track on the mantra "protoplasm must die so that protoplasm can live" that does not mean that the process of speciation and change is without purpose or itelligence. There are many who believe that evolution is as system of progression with inteligent design and purpose. You needn't fall into the trap of dichotomous thinking that you are in. I hope your grief does not make it impossible for you to appreciate that your loved one has not lived a meaningful and purpose filled life.

    best regards,

    Great posts everyone.

I agonize quite a bit over what the truth of our lives is. I've read lots of different views on what happens after we die, some which seem to be backed up by personal experience, but I simply don't know for sure. All I have is this deep conviction, an inner feeling that there must be some sort of higher purpose to us and this universe, that there is more to our short lives. My personal thought is that we were infact the ones who created the universe, that our present lives are the constantly recycling expression of spirit that allows existence to become conscious of itself. Human evolution and evolution of the universe go hand in hand, as both are the ever learning dream of consciousness. Suffering is the necessary opposite through which life must grow.

However, just formulating these intellectual interpretations is not enough, I want to experience it directly. I refuse to ever give up the search, I refuse to believe that we are nothing more than rotting lumps of carbon that accidentally (and tragically) became consciousness.

    Enishi,

What a relief. That would be a very depressing prospect. I'm glad you feel that way.

I do not know anymore what happens at death. All i know is we are born , live a number of years, and eventually die. How we live is dependent on many things, such as where we were born, the social class and education of our parents, and our herdiity. So many things a newborn cannot control. If we are lucky, we get an education and we learn to love our fellow man, and also receive love. If we are able to help others and not cause any harm, we have done well. If we also can contribute to the future, we have done very well. Along the way, hopefully we are having fun, yes fun. Life should be fun.if we are not having fun, we should examine our lives and find out why not. it appears this is it, so we should try and use this life and get as much out of it as possible.

If we have love and share it, and do good and cause no harm, we have done well.
