"Whatever it is it just another nut case who was able to get a high power gun to kill people. Why is this allowed?"
It's not allowed... but people do it anyway, the same way they hold up banks, drink and drive etc, all of which are illegal activities.
It was just a matter of time until these shootings went from schools and workplaces where a disgruntled individual targeted people he knew. Now (as I long suspected it would), it has crossed into public venues where seemingly random individuals on a large scale, are the target.
I'm curious as to how (according to the news) he got 12 or more good sized weapons into a hotel without being noticed.

It's Vegas... you can probably do all kinds of crazy without being noticed there... -

Well, I don't know the ins and outs of this case, like I don't know the ins and outs of US gun laws.
But something must be done.
Whether it's stricter gun screening tests or stricter gun laws, I don't know ... but you can't have a society where some nut shoots and kills 50 people and injures 100 ... you just can't ...

Sandy Hook was 20 kids.
If there are any hotels that would be at the forefront of hotel security it would be vegas.
What a fucking asshole this guy was.

Don't mean to detract from today's tragedy, but these kind of events only make it harder for JWs to think outside the box. Now they know we're in the last days for sure. 😟

The problem is banning something would not have stopped this, does anyone REALLY believe that someone this demented would just throw up their hands and give up because of a law? You know what is completely illegal? murder, that ban didn't work. What about Paris in 2015, you can't say they don't have insanely restrictive firearm laws still how many people were killed by terrorists with full automotive weapons? That fiasco resulted in something like 130 deaths and over 400 injuries.
You have places with strict gun laws and places with lax gun laws, either way in a massacre situation like this neither makes a bit of difference, whether he got them legally or illegally, he was GOING TO GET THEM AND GOING TO USE THEM.
It's just a regressive opportunity to wave a virtue flag. A false solution. Something simple to blame that pushed a political agenda.

The problem is banning something would not have stopped this - yeah I think I agree.
But something must be done. Stricter checks or ownership, I don't know.
You can't have a society where some nut shoots, injures and kills dozens of innocent people.
You just can't.

On the other hand:
What happened next has been the subject of several academic studies. Violent crime and gun-related deaths did not come to an end in Australia, of course. But as the Washington Post’s Wonkblog pointed out in August, homicides by firearm plunged 59 percent between 1995 and 2006, with no corresponding increase in non-firearm-related homicides. The drop in suicides by gun was even steeper: 65 percent. Studies found a close correlation between the sharp declines and the gun buybacks. Robberies involving a firearm also dropped significantly. Meanwhile, home invasions did not increase, contrary to fears that firearm ownership is needed to deter such crimes. But here’s the most stunning statistic. In the decade before the Port Arthur massacre, there had been 11 mass shootings in the country. There hasn’t been a single one in Australia since.
Although, as others have noted, you can't legislate away Americans' warped lust affair with violence. So a US program similar to Australia's may not have the same effect.
It's all moot anyway. The NRA is one of the most powerful lobbies in the USA, with enough gun-nutters supporting them that makes any sort of political solution virtually impossible in the USA.
In an ideal world, or in a non-violence-loving non-gun-nut country, firearm restrictions would (and have) worked. I just can't conceive of it ever happening here.

We had an islamic nut kill two people with knifes in paris yesterday. We had another drive a truck through a crowd. We had another use pressure cookers to kill and maim crowds. We had others fly planes into buildings... nobody wants to hear it, freemind. For many “law” is the answer because it makes them feel good ignoring the simple fact that MURDER IS ALREADY AGAINST THE LAW. Firing a weapon into a crowd is against the law. So many goddamn laws were broken by this nut that it would be difficult to list them all. But they wont care what laws he broke to kill these people or even that these people died. Their bodies will stood on to push a gun abolition agenda. To make more laws that criminals wont follow. And they will feel better. Thats what counts.
