I personally knew one of those "apostates" before he became one. He was just a fanatical before trying to convert one over to his way of thinking as he was after he became an "apostate". The way I feel is these people are no better than the dubs. Why can't they just respect others beliefs and leave well enough alone? Its due to the dub indoctrination that "we are right everyone else is wrong" mentality.

I agree with another poster here that most of them are "born again" trying to convert those poor misguided dubs before the judgement day. They to are no better than the dubs. I had a born again person try to get me to go to her church and gave me a book just a few weeks ago. Being an open minded I have read the book and as far as I can see they are just the same as the dubs. I will start another post just to discuss this subject.

We had a guy who was studying in our congregation for a while--a very, very nervous young man who always wore a carefully pressed suit, even to picnics and softball games. (I can still remember him crawling the rest of the way to first base on his hands and knees in his suit after falling down halfway from home plate.) We felt sorry for him--he was such a nutcase, really--and were always extra nice. Anyway, he suddenly joined up with some other born-again fringe group and started showing up with his new friends outside the KH. I remember he once opened the door and shouted: "These people have false doctrines!" at the top of his lungs during a meeting. After a couple of weeks of this, they just disappeared. I sometimes wonder what happened to that guy. I hope he got therapy.

Anyway, I tend to agree with the people here who say that the bullhorn types gives apostates a bad name. Get free, live your life. Help anyone else who wants to be helped.

Who all went to the Tacoma Dome? That's where i saw these apostates.

It's funny, but there are about 5 of us on this board that went there. I'm curious to see who they all are.

At the risk of sounding like a active Dub, what were your congregations?

Yes, been to a few Tacoma dome Assemblies, I went to the Albany, OR, & corvallis OR congs

The time I remember was at the Seattle kngdome, I was 8, & it was a 5 day assembly. I got busted BIGTIME for chucking grapes, etc. from my fruit bag at them from the upper deck. I told my dad later that day, hoping for praise, instead I got a spanking.

I like the idea of "evil slaving" subtly of course, but those born again bozos were just the flip side of the coin, with there hellfire signs, etc. Getting to them w/ religious dogma is'nt the way to get them, IMO. Teh scandals, UN, 1914, Child molesatation have been far more effective at getting people out.

I don't mean to disrespect anyone here who may have participated in such things but I honestly felt that the shouting did more harm than good

I have to agree with you.

I too went to the Tacoma Dome convention for 2 years back in like 93-94. I thought it was ridiculous. It was scary and annoying. The Los Angeles conventions were all pretty mellow, just a bunch of signs. One year they got violent and locked a gate so no one could get in or out.

I had forgotten how crazy those Washington folks were. It certainly didnt help put in doubts in my mind.

Actually I agree too... it does more harm than good. But I do admire the guts it would take to do something like that.

I must agree with those who advocate quiet demonstration and a personal approach. We always avoided the "Apostates" like the plague and it reinforced our faith rather than making us think.. One day, if ever I get d/fd I would love to infiltrate and just talk to people especially young ones.

Does anyone remember an incident at Twickenham sometime in the 80's . Two lads got on the pitch and walked the lenght of it, shouting and waiving . They walked coser and closer to the platform and the speaker, who to his credit just calmly kept speaking. Since they were about to get to the mikes the crowd started clapping to drown them out, and as they leapt on the platform a whole army of attendands fell upon them and escorted them away. The security even had an alsation guard dog up there

After that there lots of attendants keeping lookout . They would have loved it if any more had come!

From the responses regarding people who went to the Tacoma Dome and surrounding areas, there are a TON of people from Washington State on this board, from the looks of it more so than any other state.

I wonder why that is? Is there something about WA that makes us unique?
