Lack of response

I think I misjudge things quite often - I must be a man, huh?

But still things which I post sometimes seem to be of little interest to others - PS the same occurs in real life where some things I get really excited about discussing seem to be of little or no interest to others. When that happens a person starts to question themselves and their place in the world.

For instance I am fascinated by genetic sciences and the ethos associated therewith and it seems so fascinating to me. But few others seem interested in this subject. I see it having massive effects on the quality of how we live now and the future. I also see it changing peoples value systems away from religion ? yes we will play god. But its either the way I present my points or its just that others aren?t interested in the subjects. When that happens it is healthy to be introspective but it is also healthy to listen to the viewpoints of others and see if I am all wet.

Jack you are just too damn smart for us here. Post those subjects in a science periodical. I'm 57 just don't care about genetics, because by the time their have isolated the gene and the FDA approves the treatment I won't be able to afford the fix. It is a fasinating topic . Hope you are young enough to accept the longivity of genetics. Matter of fact I wish I was in my youth again. Keep a stiff upper lip, don't hang your head in shame. You're just too smart for the average dummy.

    Q. Top two types of threads to get hits?

    A. Questions and sympathy threads.

    Q. Why?

    A. Because people feel compelled to respond.

    Q. Type of thread to get few hits?

    A. The deep ones. They are often read but not responded to. Check out Farkel's threads. Lady Lee's threads. SheilaM's poetry. Maybe five, six responses each. Tops.

Some threads grow for no apparent reason. Check out Irongland's neverending thread if you don't believe me.

Reckless - thanks for the honest response.

One of the things you said was:

Post those subjects in a science periodical

I understand why people don't want to know the technical stuff related to genetics but the ethical side and the ethical effects seem relevant to a religious board. Again - I want to know where my place is in life and I am looking for friends who share my interests so I would rather people be honest and even blunt with me.

Hey! I like the geeky stuff! I read it all. I DID NOT read the first threads you posted here, as they were a pretty deliberate slam on Christianity. Honest enough for you?

You are right. I don't have any appreciation for Christianity. I have in the past offended Christians and I am sure I will do so again. I wish I could be a Christian though. I wish I could be fulfilled and have the hope that some believers have. I just can't though because it doesn't make sense to me. If this means Christians don't want to read my posts then thats fine - it is a valid explanation; just as I tend not to read too many bible or belief posts on specific verses. This proves my question valid that one of the primary reasons posts aren't responded to is because others have no interest in the subject.

So you haven't found your niche yet.

I have had plenty of posts that I put a lot of time effort and some actual thought into (I know coming from me isn't that like totally whack and some sh*t?) and gotten one or two responses. Not what I hoped for. I think I am an idealist sometimes and think--"Wow this is so cool, certainly my fellow posters will want to hash this out with me!"...apparently not.

It's all about quality and not quantity. Sure we'd love to have our posts/thoughts spark a flurry of posts. But when it doesn't happen I am always thankful for the few well-meaning and equally well thought posts I do get to my threads--few as they may be sometimes.

So you end up developing a closer bond with a few posters here. Far more satisfying then a drive by fluff-o-ramma thread...(I think).

Most posters here would suffer from allelic disentary if you started a thread on genetics. I, on the other hand, would salivate!

Carmel - I started one on "life is a commodity" and got hardly any responses. This prompted my questioning myself on what I was posting here.

Well donkey if I judged my threads by number of posts I would have stopped a long time ago.

It is disheartening to feel like no one cares. I have learned though that patience helps. I find out much later how much my posts mean to people.

Pssstt JG some of my threads actually hit page 2!!!
