Yep, and now you’ve just basically lost the discussing comparing volunteering with modern day slavery.

When people have no argument, they resort to hyperbolic cliches.

Doubter, volunteers still have freedom of association and freedom of speech. You (should) know that you don't get that with Watchtower.

If it's a two way street, can you tell me what one would gain by volunteering as a Bethelite?

At any rate, serving at any capacity as a jw is 100 percent voluntary.

    Bull!

    FR,

Pressure and family expectations are a part of life. It happens in every facet of the secular world. Deal with it or go live on Mars.

    PE,

and jws have the freedom to decided who are members and who are not. That’s also freedom of association.

Doubter you must be enjoying this site because you've been on it a lot lately and you're commenting more. Your doubts about the religion must have increased with what you're learning here for you to be a more regular visitor and poster.

    And pale Emperor,

The freedom of speech crap only flies when the government intervenes and tries to throw you in jail for what you say. It does not apply to private organizations

    I think you know this.

Doubter - the vast majority of "worldly families" don't cut their children off though if they decide to take a different course in life or if they have different beliefs!!

In reality, that’s freedom of association as well. What, just because its family members it doesn’t apply? If it doesn’t, why not?

The reason otherwise intelligent people willingly volunteer to sign their personal freedoms away to go live in a cult compound is because they have been indoctrinated to believe it's the right thing to do.

Not everyone that applies to bethel gets accepted it's held out as a "privilege" there are only so many ways you can "serve" or advance your theocratic career and going to bethel is one of them gilead is another the bar being set pretty high for both.

Nothing wrong with a bit of healthy ambition cults take advantage of it actually, they just call it "reaching out."

Oh yeah, “indoctrination” is another code word for “forced”.

    Forgot about that!
