Touchofgrey – “The four gospels were written by
unknown authors many decades after the so called events so not eyewitness
accounts.”
This is my last response, because I see we have gone off
topic. When my husband was in his late 50’s he began
writing his autobiography/work manual on his environmental career from the time
he was 17. Throughout his account he
mentioned people that he worked with, and what he and they accomplished
together. It was his “eyewitness”
account of not only his activities, but those involved with him and included
very detailed descriptions from the age of 17 until he retired. (He had a
photographic memory) For those people interested in the same career as he had,
should they dismiss his history, his experience, his knowledge and the
experience of all who worked with him? I
doubt they would, and possibly would put faith in his experience and expertise
to teach them what not only he knew, but what he failed at. Only people not interested in
his work field would disregard his account. They wouldn’t be drawn to it.
To say that the disciples, apostles who were with Christ, who
worked with Christ, witnessed his miracles, were motivated by the Spirit of
Christ ( including Paul), and who then wrote down their accounts of time with him “decades
after”…
…to say that they were not “eyewitnesses” of the life of
Jesus when living at the same time, just doesn’t add up.
But faith is involved as well as interest - in
the life of Christ, and the desire to learn from his words and the accounts by
the apostles.
One doesn’t need an accolade, or a university degree created
by men, or a claim to fame bestowed on him by men… someone living at the same
time as Christ, to then have his account of the life of Christ suddenly become
believable.
You don’t appear to have an interest in Jesus Christ, which
is your choice. I accept that. Many people do though, because they
believe the accounts written down by men who walked with him during his life on
earth. I guess you might consider
accepting that, and be at peace.
Galatians 1:10-12 - “Am
I trying to win over human beings or God? Or am I trying to please people? If I
were still trying to please people, I wouldn’t be Christ’s slave. 11 Brothers
and sisters, I want you to know that the gospel I preached isn’t human in
origin. 12 I didn’t receive it or learn it from a
human. It came through a revelation from Jesus Christ.”
John 8:45,54-58 - Because I speak
the truth, you don’t believe me.
Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is
meaningless. My Father, who you say is your God, is the one who glorifies me. 55 You
don’t know him, but I do. If I said I didn’t know him, I would be like you, a
liar. But I do know him, and I keep his word. 56 Your
father Abraham was overjoyed that he would see my day. He saw it and was
happy.”
57 “You aren’t even 50 years old!”
the Jewish opposition replied. “How can you say that you have seen Abraham?”
58 “I assure you,” Jesus
replied, “before Abraham was, I Am.”
