Is it just me, or is Watchtower lowering its standards?

    Some witnesses are in the congregation we associate with are lowering their standards.

    I’m an inactive publisher. I haven’t reported for probably 6 years or so. Mrs. Hoser rarely goes in service. Probably once or twice per year.

    We are 1/3 meeting attendees.

    We were shunned socially by the jws for the past decade.

    All of a sudden they are nice to us, they invite us to their houses and out for dinner at restaurants.

    If it’s “encouragement” it’s not going to change us into model Jehovah’s witnesses.

    They might want something from us but we are a boring, boorish couple.

    Im not sure what’s up if anything.

    Is it easier to be a JW now. Yes, perhaps.

    Fewer hours in meetings. ( No separate book study). Shorter Talks.

    Way fewer hours in field Service for Pioneers, and Servants.

    Less rigorous dress and grooming rules.

    Easier to be reinstated.

    But much harder to remain MENTALLY in. Abundant information in books and the on the internet that abundantly proves they are morally deficient and in NO WAY CHOSEN BY A MORAL CREATOR. Obviously, Elders and Servants are not vetted by the organization, or HOLY SPIRIT (if it exists). Obviously Watchtower is complicit in covering over crimes. What moral person WANTS to associate with an immoral organization?

    Balaamass2 I agree, I could no longer go door to door or study with someone and tell them to come to the KH and find true love and a clean people. So I stopped that, then meetings. Then all social things with jws. 23 years now POMO.

    I dont know how its possible to remain mentality in as a JW these days.

    Crisis of Conscience is readily available on kindle. Or to order on amazon.

    Forums like these.

    A plethora of youtube videos. Videos you can go back from years ago & watch again & again.

    Ignorance today,,,, is a choice.

    I dont know. But it must seem like you're climbing a mountain with an elephant on your back. Knowing what you know,,,,,& especially with family and friends who are still die in the wool,, hardcore JW. With going to meetings and everything and acting like you're a believer.

    The mental stress , anguish and anxiety must be off the chart.

    That is being a PIMO now,,,and know what you know now. Maybe you have family,,, all your friends & maybe your job depends on it.....must be super stressful !!

    They have certainly lowered their standards, and particularly on some sexual matters.
    Soft porn (aka non-abhorrent) is OK (wink wink) vs objectionable abhorrent porn (with greed).
    Oral &/or anal sex (within marriage) are a personal matter (don't force her), vs in the past they were brazen perversions and abhorrent for a Christian.
    Masturbation -- do they even address it anymore. How dumb was that policy? Statistics indicate 95% of single men admit to masturbating regularly while 5% of single men are known liars. (IDK, seems more popular with you gals too these days.)
    Their position on gambling has been watered down through the years, too. Now, innocent "penny gambling" like a poker game or an occasional Lotto ticket is OK. I guess even dropping a few bucks playing slots on the Riverboat is "don't ask, don't tell". Just don't get "greedy" about it. That would be objectionable.

    Absolutely right. If a baptised person does anything they consider serious sin, nowadays all they need to do is say they are sorry and nothing will happen. What a change this is compared to before. Nowadays the elders beg the publisher to not leave where in the past publishers had to beg the elders to let them stay.

    I have even noticed a change with entertainment these days. We could not admit to watching or playing an 18 certificate film or game years ago. Nowadays there is no more pushing the idea that we should get up and walk out of the cinema

    definitely relaxing policy on everything

    Two things came to my mind after reading this thread.

    1. The ex-wife who sees the husband treat his second with more kindness who then gets angry because of his changes.

    2 The Gospel story of Pharisees harshing on Jesus for not shunning sinners.

    I'm sure some of you are simply noticing changes that surprise you and do not intend to sound negative about that; but if you really have a problem with the church becoming incrementally less controlling and judgmental, ask yourself why.

    Plain ole dull straight porn - boy & girl. Think 1960's Playboy. (Probably requires pubic hair. Shaved is likely considered kinky & illicit.) [For the slow learners-- this is not really WT policy. It's satire or hyperbole. Please don't reply with quotes from the "Shepherd the Flock" book.]

    They are not "allowing" it. They just realized finally that they cannot stop it. Boys will be boys. While it used to mean removal of any/all privileges, they had to adjust that policy or there would be no elders/MS still serving and definitely no young guys available for Bethel service.
