You see, Mouthy, when Adam got ribbed or deribbed by God, he exclaimed "This one I call Woe! Man!" Remember, it's literally, in Hebrew----"womb of man"....Hmmm.....

Minimus, Like I said yesterday in my post about the elders calling to help shovel snow for the elderly,no calls from those who love us and miss us,no help shoveling from the elders to arrange for someone to shovel our snow.A "Worldy"person helped us ,and we didn't even know him.

This morning we get a call on our machine, the meeting is cancelled today. We having been to the meetings for months. No questions about our welfare, the snowstorm 's effect on us,do we need anything ,help etc.Only the meeting is cancelled, bye. So much for the we love you ,we miss you routine.

I don't know about the Elders in your congregation, but I was an Elder for many years in ours, and we were the first to cancel the meetings, even praying for bad weather! Probably because we were overworked and very tired. Nobody in the congrgation ever complained either.

One time I wanted to cancel the meeting because the furnace was not working. They decided to have it anyway because it was summer. Bummer!

Think about it this way, Blue. At least they think of you to leave messages! We never get a call...Ha! ......Outaservice---You sound just like me. I would be willing to cancel the meeting because we COULD get some snow...You gotta keep showing love for the elderly, you know!

What's weird is one congregation in the same town would cancel the meeting and another would not. I can remember one night 35 below 0, 1/2 the congregation could not get their cars started, the elders started forming an informal taxi cab service, those whose cars started were to pick up those whose cars would not start. When I was called, I said I was staying home and that it was too cold. I asked what would happen if after 2 hours those cars did not start? I said I had called local law enforcement who said people should stay off the road unless it was an emergency. Were the elders ready to be bloodguilty if someone's car stalled and the occupants froze to death? The meeting was called off.

I stayed home during tornado watches/warnings too.

I always call law enforcement to find out the advisability of traveling.

Sheila, I think we all probably went along with taking our families to the meetings----simply because there was a meeting. If it wasn't cancelled, Jehovah must've wanted us to be there so we are protected.......Blondie, I'd listen to the lastest weather reports and when the state police or the governor would ask that only necessary cars be on the road, the PO would regard that as applying to Jehovah's Witnesses. The last few years, I exercised common sense and simply stayed home if the weather was nasty.

Most sensible people would, min. But we had one PO that felt that meant only on the roads outside town and that since were were an urban congregation.....

I understand that if the state police order it per the governor...but they also make strong suggestions.
