If they want you out then they will find a way or trump something up. (Been there done that.) It is a sad state of affairs when the borg is thicker than blood. Control of information is a way to control decisions made by members. If the people you call friends are only friend if you meet certain conditions then were they truely your friends.

I was told that I should talk to the elders about any questions I have.

A fat lot of good that would do. The elders that I meet these days do not want to know about talking to the flock, unless it is a nice old lady who will ply them with cups of tea and tell them they are wonderful.
