So, what's stopping you from going to the hall?

2 elders came to my door today, at noon sharp, and I opened the door to let them in. They didn't want to come in, so they stood at the door and asked me, "What's stopping you from coming to the hall"?

They only come once a year and always around Christmas time. They were in my app building Christmas eve, and today they knocked at my door. They always come around Christmas time.

I quit going for personal reasons many years ago, and I told them once more what I didn't like about them and the way they treated me and how they could have made a difference in the past. I didn't even go into biblical stuff or anything we discuss here on this forum, like false prophesy or pedofile scandals. They didn't stay long enough for that.

Bottom line is that I don't want to go back there where people can't think for themselves, and where everybody is expected to be a clone of one another.

So, what would you have answered to the question, "What's stopping you from going to the hall"?

Being disfellowshipped really sucks and attending meetings. Nobody can talk to you, usually you have to sit in the back sometimes a eager witness tries to start a conversation with you and then a self righteous idiot will run up to them and whisper in you ear that your disfellowshipped, NOT TO TALK TO YOU!

I really dont know how the society can apply the prodigal son illustration to being reinstated, because its not a comfortable feeling. Then after experiencing this torture for 6 months to a year you must WRITE a letter begging to come back!

The dubs often come calling once a year...Not too check on your well being, but to peek over your shoulder for christmas decoration.

I guess they feel the most helpless at that time, and since the "in" group is so dead and bored, they must find some excitment from households that wont tell them to bugger off.

My sister always gets "visited" on Christmas.....She is fading...

If you are bored, cause some trouble...makes for a little excitment, as I see it.

Don't you have anything better to do? Obviously, I don't attend meetings anymore, so whether I have Christmas decorations or not is none of your business. Since this time of year is the only time you are interested in me, and it is obvious why, don't bother to knock. I have nothing to say to those who spy on others in the hopes of finding them doing something wrong. Mind the rafter in your own eyes. See you next year.

Now Ilive by the Watchtower Walkill farm, so occassionally they send a bethelite I served with in Brooklyn 16 years ago. Of course now these guys aren't newbies like I was but a Bethel Elders and heavies. I'm polite event though my wife get's upset because they start asking questions about my personal life. One item in my home makes the hispanic brothers scared and its a Indian I have guarding my door, sort of a good luck charm, and after seeing it they wont come back,.
