    Thanks for some clarification Atlantic..

So... your ex wife is free to remarry in the J.W. faith..and is not behind the elders wanting to meet with you....

It could be that the congregation of elders are just going through their files and trying to clean up loose ends.. Oops!.. I didn't mean to say you are a loose end... But to them, you may be.

Periodically, congregations sometimes do this, I think...

I think it was last year in Jan and Feb.. that I read about this happenning here on the forum.. Some new thing where elders are to call and meet with inactive ones and find out where they stand...and it was this time of year.

    sincerely

    Special K

Don't make a threat if you are not prepared to follow through on it.

If you follow through, sue the INDIVIDUAL members of the judicial committee - do not bring the WTS into it. The WTS has tremendous legal resources, but they are unlikely to share those resources with local elders who are being individually sued.

The advice on this thread is excellent. I have only the following to add:

They may have shot themselves in the foot by putting the reason in writing. Normally they don't do that.

Since you are already divorced, the law may view it that they have no grounds to impose "religious sanctions" on you, on the basis of adultery.
If you are replying, it would pay to do so in written form, preferably by the hand of an attorney, and perhaps mention this.

You might want to ensure that such a letter does not constitute an admission of Disassociation.

If you're lucky, you may get out of this with your skin.
If not, or if they decide to get gungho, due to injured pride, they will do what they want.

Whatever the case, their renewed interest in you isn't good.

    Good luck...

Thanks everyone. I did come across this when I was trying to get info from the elders book. I apologize if this is difficult to read I am having some issues with formatting.

Baptized persons who have not associated for some time.

If you learn of serious wrongdoing on the part of such a
person, the matter should be investigated if it poses a
threat to the congregation's cleanness and welfare or caus-
    es a public scandal.

    Consider the following:

Does he still profess to be a Witness?

Is he generally recognized as such in the congrega-
    tion and/or t e community?

Does the person have a measure of contact or
association with the congregation so that a leaven-
    ing, or corrupting, influence exists?

How did the matter become known to the elders?

_ Is the person willing to meet with a committee,
thus admitting accountability to the Christian con-
    gregation?

Depending upon length of inactivity and other factors
suggested above, elders may determine to hold the
    matter in abeyance.

In such a case, a record of the person's questionable
conduct should be made for the congregation file so
that everything noted might be clarified when the
person shows interest in becoming active again.

If the sinful conduct is known only to believing family
members and no congregation action is taken because
of the factors outlined above, believing relatives will
likely determine to curtail family association severely,
viewing the relative as bad association. ( I Cor. 15:33)

If the individual still professes to be a Witness and is
willing to meet with the judicial committee, the matter
should be handled in the normal way. However, when
factors such as possible legal action exist, it is best to
    consult the Society before proceeding. (w87 9/1 p. 14)
