    Hi Robhic,

It is good to get a non-JW viewpoint. Jgnat helps me with that too.

but after hearing the specific word NEAR over and over and over again in all of its associated contexts can someone not become immune to its meaning?

The last 5 years I attended meetings, Robhic, I actually kept track of those al phrases that had to do with time. I would highlight them and circle them, then show them to my husband. I would make little derogatory comments in the margins.?actually the beginning of my reviews. It was the only way it was tolerable. Bit by bit, I saw the manipulations and lies. Now I hope my reviews can help some let go sooner than I did.

How do I do it? I used to have a job that required typing police reports on abuse. There were times I had to stop and have a good cry. But I knew that my work was part of the effort to catch and lock up such people. So I perservered.

Thanks for letting me know that these reviews can be beneficial.

Hey Frank, keeping warm in Canada?

their misunderstanding and abuse of what Jesus taught about watchfulness and urgency

I am still trying to clear out all the WTS propaganda and see what Jesus? really said. I keep challenging every statement by the WTS, "Where?s the proof?"

    Kg,

What level of need for self-deception would allow one to actually study this stuff and not recognize it is crazy.

That is so true. And after leaving the WTS, it is good that all of us remember that the WTS is not alone in practicing deception. These same techniques can be used by our family, the government, our employer, etc. I was always amazed how women could stay with their abusers, or how alcoholics could not see they had a drinking problem, that their government had lied to them. Same techniques; we need to be alert to deception in all areas of our life.

You?re so refreshing. I was glad to see you got in on the radio show. I hope they recorded your comments. I?m going to check it today.

People brag more about doing it.

Jgnat, thanks for developing the WTS deception that the world is getting worse. They don?t dare use stats because they?re not out there. I missed a show by John Stossel that debunked those myths. Thanks for your research. It can get overwhelming to follow up every point in a week?s time and I had 2 less days because of my excursion last weekend.

    ,
Jesus does not need the WTS and they don't want him as mankinds savior! That job they have taken for themselves.

Yes they have taken Jesus out of the equation and put themselves in his place. Does that make them the antichrist? (smile)

Yes, the turnover keeps the JWs new and ignorant of what happened in the past. I know one older sister (80?s) whose parents were JWs. Every time she raises her hand, they cringe, because she shoots holes in the carefully crafted WTS history.

For example, when the JW today reads that JWs in the 30?s and 40?s were arrested for going door to door, they think of themselves a couple of car groups going out a Sunday. What they hear from this sister, is that many car groups from towns and cities far away were organized to converge on a small town and "cover" it quickly. The idea was to fill up the local jail with 20 JWs so that the rest could continue "preaching." After hearing that one sister said to me, "No wonder they were arrested. They wanted to be arrested. Why didn?t they just send a couple of people go and do it quietly?"

    ,

I?m glad you aren?t going this Sunday.

But all you comments here were excellent.

Message preached. Wow. A handful of people knock on doors and hope that the householder won't come; this is the message of doom that is being preached??? I seem to recall being told to keep the message hopeful; I also can't recall that Jesus' good news had anything to do with all mankind being killed off.

Good news for whom? Can you imagine Jesus reading Isaiah 61 and then telling them that the vast majority of mankind living was going to die. They would have killed him on the spot rather than tossing him into the ravine.

    Hey new father, Gopher,

Getting more urgency out of their followers is like trying to squeeze blood out of a turnip.

More like beating a dead horse.

The urgency is in the fact that the money is not rolling in like it used to. Between the project in Wallkill and the pending $50 million plus taxes due in France, the WTS may do itself in financially. Talking about tithing in the last article, made me realize how grim things are getting for them.

Imagine how reluctant people are to become JWs and it is supposed to be free. But look at the numbers that become Mormons knowing they have to give 10% of the gross income?

    Mysterious,

Thanks for telling me about this show. I am going to try and see if I can get a transcript/tape.

I watched a show on 20/20 the other night, it was detailing the top 10 myths of our time. Number one was that the world is getting worse. They went through each category such as economic, health etc and showed statistically how things are not getting worse and how much things have improved over even 100 years ago. Of course the WT doesn't want to hear it and certainly doesn't want their members to here it. Without this myth what do they have to lock people into an endless cycle of meetings.

God?s Word assures us that "a great crowd" will "come out of the great tribulation." (Revelation 7:9,14) (PROOF, not even a reference to another WTS publication that does) How many will there be in the great crowd" Jesus himself said: "Narrow is the gate and cramped the road leading off into life, and few are the ones finding it." (Matthew 7:13,14)

So it there will be a "great crowd" that is made of a "few" people.

    Elsewhere,

Do you think that is doublespeak? I do.

Great crowd in comparison to the literal 144,000 the WTS teaches.

Yet FEW are the ones finding it from Jesus words at Matthew 7:13,14 (NIV)

"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

And there you have it few and great. So speaks the WTS out both sides it its mouth.

I think it is so cool, Blondie, that you got to meet some of us in Canada. I happened to have more than my usual links on this one, because dMouse twigged me on to the "prophecy" angle. I had visions of my honey coming back from the meeting, his eyes firmly fixed on a future date, and no use to me in the here and now. So I started to do my research. Fore-armed, you know.

An article on Cognitive Dissonance, illustrating how it is used in everyday life. The WTBTS are master manipulators, but they are not alone.

Thanks again Blondie for the review. I only just now saw it. Mum is hooked up by telephone for the meetings, an MS arranged it, not the elders! I think, however, that she'll be busy today doing other stuff, like maybe watching "Seabiscuit" on dvd.

but after hearing the specific word NEAR over and over and over again in all of its associated contexts can someone not become immune to its meaning?

Absolutely. I could barely sit through the meetings after awhile, and started missing more and more. I think that's why some of the JWs I know in the bigger cities are "serving where the need is great", going into foreign language congregations. Struggling to learn a new language helps prevent the insanity-from-monotony syndrome. Even if it is a language that will probably not be used in any other sphere of activity like work or with extended family, such as Hindi or Tagalog. Many long-time Witnesses I know are learning these types of languages, ostensibly to help out. But there are lots of native speaking people of those languages, so they really don't need massive droves of "foreigners" in their congregations. I truly think it's because the R&F are bored out of their minds and need to do something to keep themselves distracted.

Thanks Blondie, better get to the video store! As an aside, my Bible reading with mum in the evenings is going well. I'm going to check other translations (I'm using the NEB) online and print out various chapters that were suggested to me in my other post (sorry for the hi-jacking)!

How meany flippin times have we heard that before? Back in the early 70's i was looking up something in the KH library. they had a volume dated 1950 . It said clearly" Armageddon is now very very near" I thoght at the time , "How would those brothers have reacted if they knew there was 25 years to go??

Now we stand 30 years on again.. What has happened? Zilch! Nothing ! absolute zero! May I remind the writers of this tired out bull##t that we are in the 100th year since Christ is supposed to have taken power and started the time of the end. A very long "Short period of time (Rev 12.12 )if you ask me

Once again the threat in pa.22. If you are not to be found in the "Arklike spiritual paradise" , an arrangement exclusively for the anointed and o/sheep of JW's, we can expect to be turned into a vultures breakfast before very long

And the Public Talk was all about Love!

Spot on as usual Blondie. I notice that in all of these types of articles, not once does the Society focus on the real issue. They always concentrate on US making it through the GT and then on into the paradise. It is always about the reward, not the real issue. Does it really matter if we make it into the paradise? Is that what God wants?

Ask yourself, what is the greater issue at hand here? The primary issue that ALL WITNESSES are taught? Is it not Jehovah's Universal Sovereignty being made known? If you were to ask any witness what they look forward to regarding the end of the system, each and every one of them will tell you something that has to do with the paradise. The reason is because they are looking out for Number 1. It's what they get out of it - What will God do for me? But once you remind them about Jah's sovereignty issue they will backpeddle and say, oh yeah, that's right, that is much more important.

Makes me disgusted about how all witnesses serve the organization simply for the reward, not for the real issue which they are taught.

I attended the WT study this morning. While there are many bethelites in the congregation no one made the comment connecting the 120 years to 1914. The comment was made "by the fact that we are 90 years into the time of the end proves that the end is near." That may not be the exact quote, but it comes close.

The most offensive quote from the WT was that the Watchtower has a circulation of 25 million copies. While it may be true that they print 25 million copies of each issue, that has no connection with how many copies are circulated. Does the "stacks" of mags that each publisher have in their home count as circulation? Once when our congregation had a "special campaign" they asked the congregation to bring to the hall any excess mags. We ended up with boxes upon boxes of mags.
