Suppose God holds us accountable. What will you say to him in your defense to plead you cause?
I will not have to say a word. My heart will do my speaking for me.

There is no defense for sin, only Grace. So, I will say then as I say now: may your will be done.

Just in case the WT carefully avoided or expunged this pivotal passage from your Bible... Our pastor usually reads this one at funerals of our churchmembers.
RO 5:6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. RO 5:9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! 10 For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! 11 Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
So, I would give no long excuses; only a deep Thank you, Jesus.

"I will not have to say a word. My heart will do my speaking for me." --S. F. Jim
Well said!
God knows we do what we know and what we can at each given moment. I don't believe an accounting is going to be called for.
The idea that everything in life is a pass-fail test is a man-made premise. The less we judge ourselves the less we will feel like judging God.
The concept of Good and Evil, God and Satan.... duality was from Zorastrian influence, trying to find a way to produce a system of ethics and explain suffering. But everything undergoes evolution. Look at the Bible. First the law and an angry jealous God. Then Jesus comes and the message is God is accepting and loving. First we have tents and temples and sacrifice and ceremony... then we have simple meetings in private dwellings. I think it is mistake to assume that we should do everything just exactly as the early christians did. We have evolved, our spirituality should too.

What will you say to him in your defense to plead you cause?
I have no excuses for the life I've led, nor explanations, nor pleadings. I did the best I could with the poor tools I had.
Do with me as you will. I deserve whatever you decide to do with me.

I would say, I never stopped believing in you, even after the Watchtower portrayed you in such a horrid light. I wanted to stop believing, but somehow I couldn't. I wasn't dedicated to you, but a publishing corporation. Thank you God for getting me out of that cult!

As Job noted (13:20ff) much would depend of my state of mind (or soul):
Only grant two things to me,
then I will not hide myself from your face:
withdraw your hand far from me,
and do not let dread of you terrify me. Then call, and I will answer;
or let me speak, and you reply to me.
How many are my iniquities and my sins?
Make me know my transgression and my sin.
Why do you hide your face,
and count me as your enemy?
Will you frighten a windblown leaf
and pursue dry chaff?
For you write bitter things against me,
and make me reap the iniquities of my youth.
You put my feet in the stocks,
and watch all my paths;
you set a bound to the soles of my feet.
One wastes away like a rotten thing,
like a garment that is moth-eaten.So if I'm granted to be free from terror, we might have a good talk -- and perhaps a good laugh...
Btw, I misread the title of the thread into "What will you say in God's defense?" and was prepared to quote Stendhal: "God's best excuse is that he doesn't exist."

Nothing, because he already knows it. I had to explain my "sins" to my earthly father. I took great comfort in knowing I would not have to do so to my spiritual father. Of course, for those who don't believe in God this is a moot point.

Psalm 130 (NLT)
1 From the depths of despair, O LORD,
I call for your help.
2 Hear my cry, O Lord.
Pay attention to my prayer.
3 LORD, if you kept a record of our sins,
who, O Lord, could ever survive?Psalm 130 (MSG)
A pilgrim song 1 Help, GOD-the bottom has fallen out of my life! Master, hear my cry for help!
2 Listen hard! Open your ears!
Listen to my cries for mercy.
3 If you, GOD, kept records on wrongdoings,
who would stand a chance?
4 As it turns out, forgiveness is your habit,
and that's why you're worshiped. -
