Stars - yes, in the porn industry. I have a cousin who used to do porn, she wasn't a big name, she just did a few movies. Her spin on it...she was working at a strip club as a dancer in North Dallas. She was making decent money for a few hours per week of work. She had a nice figure, worked out all the time. She had the schedule to do it. One of her stripper friends got some work in Hollyweird and then she thought she'd try it too. Some adult movie director got her in some movies. She had to be drunk to do most of her scenes, but she was so humiliated after doing them. She then learned she could get more money if she did "girl girl scenes" as she called it. She did the porn for a year or two, hoping to get signed as a "Vivid Girl" so she could make the "real dough." Well she got pregnant and dropped out of making movies. She's now back in Texas working and raising her little one alone...

Wow! There sure has been a lot of thought put into this one simple question. I guess that's why Minimus asks such great questions, they seem to be simple then once you get to thinking about it, BANG!! you discover it's really complex... most of the time. But not this time.
Technically, the lead actor in any movie is the star of the movie. Just because you a) don't like the movie or b) don't like the genre doesn't change that. I didn't like the Royal Tennanbaums, but that doesn't mean that Gene Hackman or Ben Stiller aren't movie stars. I honestly don't like kung fu movies, but that doesn't mean that Bruce Lee wasn't a movie star.
Culturally, porn is not accepted by the mainstream film industry. This would negate any claims of stardom by the actors in those movies. I can pick up my dad's video camera and shoot "my movie." Just because say, my nephew, is the person that I primarily videotaped, doesn't mean that he's a movie star.
