America does seem to be really overly puritanical over some things and then have no standard whatsoever with others.

Or just different views Simon. It's not nudity we oppose; you can get that on cable TV, it's unannounced violent nudity most of us are oppossed to. Herbreast wasn't just exposed, her clothes were violently ripped off...I'm waiting to hear about the first reports of copycat ripping in the schools. BAD EXAMPLE.

The whole half-time show was in horrible taste, not just the JJ incident. Most people I talked to over 30 turned it off, it had no appeal. This stuff should be more family oriented.

Satan's little helper, I pray to God you never have kids with your attitude. Apparently it's ok with you that kids be exposed to rape behavior with the ripping off of clothes.

In Britain by contrast, a quarter of the population has been glued to the television for two weeks as scantily clad model Jordan paraded her surgically enhanced breasts in a reality TV show set in the Australian jungle.

Jordan's surgically enhanced breasts looked pretty good in Playboy too.

The Irish comedian Dave Allen made a good observation about nudity:

If a female neighbour is sunbathing nude in the garden and a guy looks over the fence at her, she can call the police and have him arrested as a peeping tom.

If a male neighbour is sunbathing nude in the garden and a woman looks over the fence at him, she can call the police and have him arrested for indecent exposure.

    Go figure !

I don't know about you, but when I was a small kid I didn't enjoy seeing that kind of thing.I wanted to be kid and I didn't want adults shoving adult things down my throat. That is what people are upset about. Keep adult matters where they belong.

I agree, Heather. I am not a mother, but, I like how you brought it back to what we as children felt when we were subjected to "adult" things..............I remember when adults would drone on over coffee and cigarettes, or playing cards, or whatever activity brought them together.........and even as a kid, I felt like I shouldn't be listening to certain things..........like mom used to say, (she was always careful) "little pictures have big ears" and I add bigger imaginations! As kids we kept our innocence for such a short time............I understand how you feel............you want to give today's kids more time to have that! And, of course, alot of us know what a stolen childhood feels like...............

It was an "MTV Moment", totally inappropriate for a family event.....however, my g/daughters thought it was hilarious (8, 10 and 12).....ah... America has its hard-core "bible belt" which attempts to strong-arm the content of most public events...heh...what can I say?

    I'd rather see Jordan's chi-chis than Janet's, anyhoo.

Yes, most americans take a more puritanical view...After all, we were founded by puritans.

I notice a lot more relaxation by our hispanic arrivals, though. Telemundo and Univision are a lot more racy at all times than their English-language counterparts. their Regis and Kelly-type shows routinely feature bikinis that Nelly wouldn't allow in his video.

Hispanics in general dress less than most. When a (white) teacher first arrived at the school she remarked about the light clothing, saying it was "Those sex-crazed kids."

Not really, I said, but its the culture...these are people who consider Texas a cold, rainy windswept plain and they dress to reflect that thought.
