    in the 23 psalms where he says;

And I will Dwell in the house of the Lord forever

where did David think he was going to dwell?

The witness bible has realy changed that psalm

They removed "the valley of the shadow of death"

    Hey galaxy,

For my benefit--I don't have a NWT--could you post the whole NWT psalm 23 here? I would like to see how they rendered ("rent") it.

    Thanks!

There was no "house of worship" in davids day. The psalms is poetic, which requires literal viewpoints of texts to be dismissed.

    Jehovah is my shepherd

    I shall lack nothing

in grassy pastures he makes me lie down

by well watered resting places he conducts me

    my soul he refreshes

he leads me in the tracks of tighteousness

    for his names sake

even though i walk in the valley of deep shadow

    i fear nothing bad

    for you are with me

    your rod and staff

    are things that comfort me

you arrange before me a table

in frint of those showing hostility to me

with oil you have greased my head

    my cup is well filled

    surely goodness and loving kindness

    themselves will persue me

all the days of my life

and i will dwell in the house of

jehovah to the length of days

I like the king james version better

    THANKS, galaxy! I appreciate that.

with oil you have greased my head

??? I know about greasing cake pans, and greasing palms, but never heard of greasing heads!

even though i walk in the valley of deep shadow

The poetry of this psalm is really hamstrung. Yeah, I agree. King James (actually, any other version) is preferable.

Good heavens.... the NWT is really pathetic. It sounds like it was written by a Stepford Wife. I agree, KJV is much better (and comforting):

Psalm 23 1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

As many (even Orthodox) commentators admit, the suscriptions ascribing the Psalms to David or anybody else are very late and hardly provide any clue to the original context...

A more direct answer to your question, my assumption would be that David thought he would be under God's protection forever, on earth, or in the abode of the dead (NOT the common grave spoke of by JW's)

Another important aspect to remember is all the psalms are prophetic and speak of the Messiah.

""Not in the abode of the dead (NOT the common grave spoke of by JW)" Yer: Same difference? How can you read more into this term?

It's been a long time since I read the WTBTS interpretation of psalms 23 but they made comparison to events in davids life as to the meaning of the passage . The valley of deep shadows was when david was living with the outlaws and king saul was hunting him to kill him . The lying down in green pastures is when david was a shepard . and so on. people like to read this at funerals but it is always the king james version and probly because it uses the phrase valley of death .
