    SwordOfJah,

typical JW response to reasonable objections. "OH WE ARE SO PERSECUTED FOR WHAT WE BELIEVE." First of all in anything happens to them its not over what they believe but WHAT THEY WERE DOING!!!!!!! How is it you cant see the difference.

She had literature all over her desk.

Almost sounds like the LITERATURE COUNTER at the KINGDOM HALL doesnt it?

    Sheila,

You did guys did the right thing. We all know that jw's are prolific and up front about their literature placement. And that they do so for the sole purpose of proselytizing.

    A major business no-no!

Good for you both for calling it the way it is. It is quite time the general public learns about the wtbts. I am sure the company would be mortified to know the ramifications of this persons actions!

    Sheila -

Good for you! This is perfect example of a violation of Federal workplace harassment laws. In fact, most companies have strict harassment policies which parallel Federal laws to keep themselves from being sued, so she more than likely was violating company policy as well. Although I believe there are times when these laws can be exploited - in this particular case - I believe your scenario is one of many reasons why those laws exist. This may not seem like on-the-job harassment to you, but legally, it is. The definition of work place harassment is "anything which may cause another to feel 'uncomfortable' in a work environment". If you were "uncomfortable" - even if your discomfort can not be proved or disproved - this person is violating Federal law, and more than likely, company policy as well.

fwiw - I don't see this scenario as trying to get someone in trouble. I see it as making a complaint you had every right to make. And I agree with others who have said that what the "boss" did with the information was his business. If this person has violated Federal law and/or company policy - they have to live with the consequences. It is not your fault this person chose to keep those mags all over the place. You didn't make her do it. She chose to do it on her own. Therefore, IMHO, you are completely absolved of any responsibility of what happens to her.

I think it is great that you stood up for yourself! Way to go!!

Violating Caesar's laws to promote "the truth" is not endorsed by the WTS when there is a lawful way to do it.. They caution continually that JWs not leave literature in the post box at homes because it is violating federal law. Yet I have known JWs to do that because there was no where to leave literature in the door. A sharp call from the homeowner to the post office and then to the local KH, prompted a special needs talk to the congregation.

It is possible that these people did this ignorantly, but from now on they will know to leave the JW publications out of the workplace.
