Doug, I'd like to offer a couple of speculations here:
1) I've spent less than 2 years on exJW db's, and by far the vast majority has been here on JWD. But friends who've been involved with the venue far longer (like you ) have filled me in on what it was like "in the old days." And one difference seems to be that there are far fewer diehard JWs coming openly into the db environment, attempting to argue their case in defense of the WTS. I'd venture to say that 99% of those who've started posting here over the last year have already been severely marginalized as JWs, and are carrying a whole lot of doubt and confusion, instead of looking for a combative confrontation.
If this is so (and I grant that it's only a speculation), then perhaps the very effective mano-e-mano 'go-for-the-throat' techniques used in the recent past are less relevant to the changing demographic.
2) 'Getting past' the JW-mentality involves such a fundamental paradigm shift, as you have frequently reminded me...and yet, for most of us, there has been such an investment of life-energy in that religion that truly letting-go-and-getting-on is extremely difficult. I often shake my head in bewilderment at folks who've been out for 5 or 10 or 15 years and ask myself "Hmmm, I wonder where I'll be at in another year?"
If you truly want to focus on your music (and I don't doubt that for a second ), then more power to ya, my man. And you'll still be hanging around...let any self-confident JW apologists beware! (Monty Python's Black Knight) LOL
My best regards,
Craig
