My dear friend: take your metronome and toss it in the trash. NOW! More musicians have been ruined by that infernal machine that I dare imagine. Learn to count out loud while you play. It takes work but it is worth it. Metronomes are dull. They are for marching soldiers and braindead musicians. Good God, man! Get rid of it! If you are a musician, your internal rhythms are infinitely better than any machine.
4/4 time: 1..2..3..4
Slow 4/4 time: 1 And 2 And 2 And 3 And 4 And.
Eighth notes in 4/4 time: 1 And 2 And
Triplets in any time: One uh, uh, Two uh, uh.
I learned how to count out loud with my voice thirty years ago and my internal clock lets me stay in time and STILL do Rubato.
You should listen to me. I know my stuff.
