Are you a doer or a talker?

There are three kinds of people in the world. Doers; say what they want to do and most times get it done. Talkers; who think they are doers, but something always happens to prevent them from actually doing the things they say they want to do. And critics; who tell the doers and talkers why the things they talk about are wrong and shouldn't be done.Guess who listens to the critics?

I know everone thinks they are a doer, in most cases they are not! Actually there are very few real doers. The high-end people I work for are, as a class, doers. These are people who have made something of themselves. They own companies or have written books, or are famous. They will routinely test out people and see if these others are all talk or can follow through with the things they say they want to accomplish. If they discover a fellow doer, they will help bring them up. If they uncover a talker, they will dismiss that one.

My daughter is learning this for herself. She came to me a month ago about wanting to drive over to the other coast to get a look at FSU. She and a friend where going to take a four day long weekend and do this. She asked if they could take my new pick-up. I told her to just let me know when and I would have the truck serviced and ready to go. Whch I did the following week. Her friend backed out at the last minute. So my daughter got on line brought and airplane ticket, which she paid for, and flew over there herself.

Now I asked you honestly, where do you fit in? Are you a talker or are you a doer? And how do you feel about people following through with what they say? Maverick I don't expect many comments on this because, as I said before, most people are all talk and no action!

    I'm half-way between a doer and a talker.

Usually I talk things through first, which to me is actually a hypothetical "do", then I'll probably finish up actually doing about a third of the ideas that I've had.

Recently, HL and I discussed the need to re-vamp our bathroom, put in an en-suite to the bedroom or rip out the entire 12 foot fireplace in the lounge and re-decorate too. I finished up ripping out the fireplace simply because I found an old pick-axe in the shed and had the means to transport away the rubble of the fireplace.

    So 1 in 3 ain't too bad..

I didn't get where I am today by talking. I never tell people what I plan to do. I've had a company for 34 years, and yes, I do have a book.

My entire family is in the same mode. There's nothing like a feeling of satisfaction in getting things done ASAP. Your in deep trouble when you allow grass to grow around your feet.

You accomplish alot when you take the bull by the horns.

Im a critic/doer. I do want I want to do, and then when I dont want to do it I critize it (talk) about it.

Hey Mav !! I'm almost to your house !! Only a few more miles and running Joy off the road and I'll be ready to be spoiled.

I'm a doer. I set my sights on doing something and then I do it. And if I've told someone I will do something I follow through. I sometimes end up not finishing some things (personal projects) but it's usually in those cases where I tried to do too much in the first place so now I'm trying to be more realistic about what I can actually get accomplished. I run a business and I can't afford a lack of follow through on what I've told someone I would make happen.

And how do you feel about people following through with what they say?

This is something that I used to feel differently about. I used to get very frustrated by this. And, at times, I still do. I still would like people to do what they say they are going to do but I've learned to be more accepting of certain things and to be much more patient. I have a few friends with ADD tendencies and I've learned more about that and how it truly affects their ability to follow through sometimes, so I try to give them a break because of it. Or maybe someone who doesn't want to hurt anyone's feelings so they say "yes" when they realistically should be saying "no". They'll get there and I try now to understand where all of that comes from.

I'm a doer especially if it is for someone else. It just takes longer when it is for me but once my mind is made up and my plan I follow it

E-man I think your more of a doer than you give yourself credit for. You came over here and dinner with me didn't you?

We all need to talk through things to get a realistic view of what we are thinking of doing. But most people just whine about how they want to start a business or buy a house or travel. But when you ask what they have done to accomplish their goal, such as check out business courses at the local college or talk to a real estate person or morgage broker, or talk to a travel agent, they just look at you! Things can happen that upset the best of plans. But most people just talk about this or that and nothing ever comes of it.

I believe in being pro-active. When you own a business in order to be a success you need to do the little things as well as the big things. Mastery is in the details, both in your personal and your profession life. Maverick

I set goals and go after them. I have no patience for those who complain about anything and everything and do absolutely nothing to accomplish it.

I don't believe God would allow us to have a dream or desire without a way to make it happen.

hahahaha! Would a doer post on this thread, or go do something? I find great satisfaction from fixing things. I have a lifetime of work ahead of me working for a large bureacracy. Helping people fix themselves is far more work, but equally satisfying.

I don't know where Lady Lee finds the energy.
