IMHO, he reads them all, but replies to those of "His" choosing. I highly suspect (theologically speaking) it has more to do with those whom are in an adoptive relationship with "Him".

Well, that's damned nice of him. So, I gather when I was a devout believer, he did not answer my shopping list because I was the wrong flavor of Christian (JW). No doubt, if I had been of a different belief system, I would have been worthy.

However, now that I have no relationship with him, just with the "Universe" (BTW, I kinda like your concept, but it detracts from the personal God I thought we were discussing here), and now that I enjoy the fruits of the spirit (love, joy, peace, etal), strength, intelligence, a decent home and a job with great medical insurance..... Who exactly IS reading my shopping list?

ROFL Wasa:I'm not a denominationalised Christian (try saying that, when you've had a few to drink ), so to my mind there is but one kind of Christian - a Christian. Getting back to the definition of words again, I would say that that is someone who has a relationship with Christ (the "following" and "works" parts follow on from that). Taking a Calvinistic theological perspective, for a moment (coz it riles Abaddon, nicely), I would say that once someone has been adopted the "papers" are never rescinded.

In your opinion, does God hear/answer prayers of those who do NOT have a relationship with Christ?

    Wasa:
In all honesty, I'm still trying to draw a conclusion on that.

I believe that I get an answer to prayers that I "feel" I get moved to make, but there so often fall into the category that Love_truth highlighted. Every now and then I believe I get "moved" to pray for "something", and in those circumstances I see action.

I have prayed outside of such a "spirit", however, (in a selfish way) and seen nothing but disappointment, almost in reaction to my selfishness.

IMHO connection to the divine is about [letting go / releasing / submitting] the ego.
That's not unique to the Christian "faith" (definition 5 or 6 on Love_Truth's list), so I'm not going to get dogmatic on a Christian response. I personally find the Christian "personal Christ" to work for me, and in line with my experiential spirituality.

I have many holes in my understanding, but cannot deny that which I have experienced. However, my skepticism drives me onward to find explanations and some kind of coherence, to that which I "see".

That, for one, gives me reason not to dismiss "Holy Writings" out of hand, as I see within in them an attempt to describe that which was experienced, and relate it to the world.
The conclusions may seem barbaric at times, to a 21st century human, but it was written when it was written.
