I'd never heard of this before ... is it true? Is it regularly invoked or was this just an attempt to charge him with anything and everything and possibly just ruin his reputation?

"A month later, he faced fresh charges, including adultery - a crime under US military justice ..."

    Simon,

Yep, adultery is a crime in the US Military, and you can go to prison for it...and it's a good law...let me explain.

When I was over in Iraq for the first Gulf War, my ex wife was having an affair with the guy down the street...a soldier who "lucked out" (in more ways than one) and stayed back instead of going to war. When I came home and found out the situation rather than reacting as any red blooded male WANTS to react...i.e. beating the dog snot out of the guy...I went to his commander...who had also been my Coupe Ferrei partner in Iraq, told him the situation and left it in his hands...when it was all over with the guy lost custody of his 2 year old son, lost his car, and went to military jail for 6 months and received a dishonorable discharge...which was harder on the guy, my beating him down, or the Army doing it for me?

It's against the law in the military to preserve good order and discipline...can you imagine being in a foxhole with the guy who was doing your wife?

Generally, the adultery thing is only persued in the case such as I've described, or when the spouse complains...I've NEVER seen a case where no one was making a complaint persued.

    Yerusalem,

So rather then deal with the fact that your wife wanted to have sex with another man, you felt you had a choice between going apeshit and being a taddle-tale? My opinion of you sinks lower and lower.

    Gitas,

Then it's probably a good thing I don't care what you think of me...huh.

Ya see, in the military, honor...that's a real thing with us...violations of honor are viewed quite dimly...sleep with a civilians wife you're told to be careful...sleep with another soldier's wife...you're a scum bag.

How can I expect people who don't care what the definition of marriage is to understand this issue.

Point of the story is...the law is designed to maintain good order and discipline.

My ex was punished too...she lost custody of her kids.

    Yeru:

Proves how separate civilian and military life really is...it's almost a completely diferent culture. And it has to be. To think that democracy can be defended by democratic means (the military) or even defined (the supreme court) is wrongheaded. Military service requires legions of sacrifices, many of which we're not willing to make. Which makes it a good thing that we have a volunteer army.

A few questions, though...how hard do they come down on the Squid who has fun in Manila? Why is only Adultery (not fornication) frowned on? What other limits do they put on fraternization?

    Yeru,

Rather then be a man about it, you got a man imprisoned, deprived of his children. It's really none of my business except you bragged about it. As for the custody of your kids and your exwife, that's none of mine at all. Still, your concept of honor is pretty odd, and at the very least an anachronism.

No, Simon...women get to boss men around in the U.S. Military...

BTW, does the British military have any oddish rules about that?
