Need help and advice.

I have been having discussions with my Brother who is an elder and his wife. We are very close. My sister in law wants to have a bible discussion with me. I said fine but, I want to use only the bible and not the NWT. She has agreed. I am now a christian and feel strongly that Jesus did not come from an angel. I would like to ask for some guidence and help from anyone who feels that could add something to begin to open her mind. I don't want to go the UN route because it just makes the think I'm bashing the organization. Thanks everyone in advance. PC

Hi pc,

For me the toughest part of opening someone else's mind has been opening my own. I don't think I ever helped anyone by debating how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. I prefer to discuss objective facts and behaviors and experiences of a rational nature. GaryB

Thanks Gary but since I'm into this whole christian thing now I figure maybe I can go that route. It's funny I was the least likely of everyone I know to ever actually believe the bible but now I do. I just don't believe it the way alot of others do.

I'm not a Christian, but when I was leaving the cult I did find Reasoning from the Scriptures with Jehovah's Witnesses by Ron Rhodes to be fairly sound in refuting some of the important JW doctrines.

I wish you the best in your Bible study. Just be sure to use a good Bible, not the New World Translation. You might be able to get some good ideas from Quotes site, you can find the link on the main page here at the bottom under LINKS.

You are in deep trouble dude. The reason why is because the watchtower has very few solid docterines. For example if you try to prove Jesus is a angel, and gain ground they will pull out references Jesus is a god. If you try to attack him being a god he will morph into an angel.

Also the watchtower will print that Jesus for example is Michael then when you look it up they will say that it is not definitive that he is Michael but implied. The fact is all docterines not spelled out in the bible are only implied. Since you are a christian you probally believe in the trinity. You know it is not in the bible, but you feel it is implied. JWs just get different implications than most people it is not like we added books to the bible, it is just when we read it we see it different than 95% percent of christianity. You have 4 main arguments that are difinative the trinity, hell, 144,000, and immortal soul.

Using a "good" bible won't help you. You can only win with logic. As a JW my self I know that the logical attack only works with rational people. Also you are using a logical attack on a irrational thing namely religion. I say that you interact for deeper understanding of each other, and not trying to convert them. Because to a muslim you are just as evil as a Jehovah's Witness. Your bais to you may be well founded, but to a person of another faith it is YOU who are ill informed. As a JW I am not really concerned about us. I don't really care about the state of religion anymore. I have read the bible too many times to take it too seriously. If God will judge me adversely it's his fault he should have written a better book.

I find it best to never argue. As them or say to them.... These are the scriptures that now have me believing this way. Just plant seeds. As Christians we are not the ones who do the work. We are just he seed planters.... It is the Holy Spirit that makes it grow.
