Yep, two disgruntled ex-employees, both of whom have been thoroughly discredited, and an elitest political gadly and love object of the left. I'd say you've got some real objectivity there.

Englishman,
LOL! I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to have TB at our helm. But he's TAKEN! He has a job! Nor would I be a bit afraid if Maggie T. had the same job. We have this sticky piece of law in our Constitution that forbids people not born in this Country to hold that serious job of US President, though.
Otherwise, I'd vote for Tony AND Maggie!

exjwdub,
: Since when does someone have to offer up an alternative solution in order to express an opinion? I for one am not happy with either choice, but because my choice is limited to either Bush or Kerry (that is unless one wants to throw a vote away on the Independent ticket), I will vote for Kerry. I don't hate Bush, but I do hate his politics. I don't trust him and I would like to see him out.
I think John Kerry is a liar and lower than pond scum
: Lower than pond scum? A liar? Well, I haven't met too many politicians that aren't and I would put Bush right along with Kerry on that score. Once again I will be forced to choose between the lesser of two evils when it comes to election time.
See the bolded part above. We do agree on this. It's not a pretty picture. Vote wisely, but please vote.
I'm not thrilled about either candidate myself, you know. I happen to think Kerry is still pond scum, though and a liar. Is Bush? Maybe. I will pick as my choice what I think is the better piece of pond scum in November.
And I will wonder why this Country cannot get better men to run it than what is now offered.....

simon,
- I don't have to be able to play the piano to know when someone else can't either
- I don't have to have the answer to know that someone else doesn't either
- I don't have to have a genius stood next to me to be able to tell that the person in front of me is an idiot (and no mirror jokes)
Well, that stuff doesn't really mean much, but it kinda sounds good.
: Even so, I think Kerry would be a better president because Bush has been an abysmal failure.
Now THIS assertion is worth getting some teeth into! I know that much or most of Europe are polarized with the USA on this issue, so I will tread lightly.
Your same argument has been made by some anti-Bush friends of mine. I asked several of them directly, "If Donald Duck was on the ballot with George Bush, would you vote for that cartoon character?" They said, "ANYONE is better than George Bush." They basically made the same argument that you did. Re-read your words above. Your are saying that Kerry would be better because Bush is a failure. You are not saying WHY Kerry would be better, just that he HAS to be better. This was my original challenge to you, and you still haven't answered it.
You then list these reasons why Bush is bad, while not stating a single reason why Kerry might be better:
He has frittered away THE most amount of goodwill ever in the shortest time
- He has isolated America even from many of it's traditional allies
- He is devisive and not inclusive or uniting (probably the relgious zealotry coming out)
- He has caused more hatred toward America from its enemies and fence sitters
- He has bolstered the recruiting power of fanatical terrorists because of his ill thought out actions
- He has put the bank ballances of wealthy Americans before the good of the majority
- He looks like a chimpanzee and can barely read an autocue
- He wears body armour all the time so walks like he has a walnut stuck up his butt
I hesitate to make judgements on today's Europe because I don't live there and don't understand their dynamics. If I did, I might be inclined to comment about it with at least some accuracy.
You do not live in today's America and don't understand its dynamics but only by what you read about it. It's not the same thing as being here and living here. I don't understand what Spain did in their politics after that tragic bombing. I know what kind of people bombed them, but I don't understand their reaction to that bombing.
But when someone like you who everyone respects as the creator of this board makes a comment like this about why GW Bush is a "bad" president,
: He looks like a chimpanzee and can barely read an autocue
I really have to wonder about your own objectivity.

sKally,
: If I didn't know better, I'd think this in reference to the WTBTS. As it is EXACTLY what is stated by the majority of jws online in yahoo chatrooms...
: "What do you have to offer that is better than jw/wt org?" "What are the alternatives?"
: So what is the difference between Bush and the WTBTS, in this reference?
It's really not relevant, but I'll try to answer it and try to guess what you meant by your question. In WatchtowerLand(tm), the average person has NO say in who is involved in the leadership. They may not like it, but they dare not say they don't like it.
In a Republic like the USA, not only can citizens complain about it, but they have the legal RIGHT to do something about it. It's called "voting." "Voting" does not exist in WatchtowerWorld(tm) except within the elite Governing Body who elect themselves by such voting. PIGS!
In short, we Americans have the free right to choose our next President. In WatchtowerWorld(tm) dubs have NO right to choose their next GB. Unless they pay the price of rebellion like our forefathers did in America. But dubs are too beaten down to rebel. They owe all those beatings-down to the religious masters they gave their lives for to those same leader's whimsical fantisies and who manipulated them, beat them down, and ultimately failed them. Until dubs get some balls, they deserve what they get.
Well, that's the way I see it. In a free Country like the USA, dubs cannot whine about their loss of rights in the WTS way of life. They GAVE that power to their religious asshole leaders. They can also TAKE back that power. If enough dubs did this the WTS would be emasculated and shown to be the paper tiger that we ex-dubs know they are.
BITE ME, Watchtower!

If I'm not mistaken, that form of government is known as a junta.
From http://www.geocities.com/lgfd/Quest.htm
The junta was a group of four judges who had usurped the power and authority of the people by punishing the right to speak and to petition the government. By misusing their power to determine the facts of disputes and apply the law, which is what judges are supposed to do, they ordered that all activities that might interfere with their power and authority be stopped and those who engaged in such activities be punished. In this way the junta made the elected leaders and legislators of the land nothing more than figureheads without power or authority to do anything of which its four members did not approve.

Farkel:
I agree with you wholeheartedly. I have seen why we do not have better candidates demonstrated in connection with local politics. The only people that run are the ones that stand to gain by poor decisions. Consequently our city ends up with commissioners and zoning officials that are realtors and developers. The result is votes to destroy the city with poorly planned economic development. The good people see the obvious bias and spectre of corruption/impropriety, and so they do not run.And I will wonder why this Country cannot get better men to run it than what is now offered.....
I think that it is very similar with the presidency. Who, but the people who stand to gain monetarily, wants to run? Who, of those that are of good heart, are willing to withstand the personal scrutiny of their private life? Add to that the saying that power corrupts (as we all have seen in our former lives) and you have the results that we have today.
It's not a pretty picture. Vote wisely, but please vote.
I will vote. Actually this has been a barrier for me for obvious reasons. It took 7 years to get over the "training" I received from WTBS and I am looking forward to voting for the first time in the upcoming election.
