I've had a terrible time sleeping for several years now. Often I wake up every hour and rarely get deep sleep. Sometimes when it's really bad, I'll take a muscle relaxant to help break the cycle. I wish I knew the answer that would work, it's one I'm struggling with too.

Hi Lee, I see by your age that you are in the "dreaded" years of most women. Hormones could be a problem too, although pain will not allow sleep either. A friend of mine swears by Kava Kava. You can take EFA's too (Essential Fatty Acids) which nourish nerve endings...............also increase your calcium, which is also good for the nerves. Just some random thoughts.

I am so sorry this is happening. A friend of mine had that neuroma too, from about age 50. Haven't seen her since we stopped being JW's, so I don't know how she is doing. She was in a wheelchair and could barely get around in her home.

I'm so sorry you are going through a rough time, that really sucks! I've only had bouts of insomnia and can usually take an over the counter sleep aid to get me through it, so I have no experience with what you are going through only sympathy! I hope for your sake it passes soon!

I had a friend who had horrible huge welted hives for a year and a half. She was miserable as you could imagine. She tried everything and eventually decided to make peace with her hives and started talking to them. Sounds crazy I know, but she talked to them like they were her best friends and worst enemies just really unleashed her anger out at them, then slowly made peace with them to the point where she said "hello how are you" every morning to them. Long story short.....within a few weeks they were gone, she had done nothing medically different just made peace with them. Like she said, "real true inner peace."

Okay the above sounds wacky, but you might want to try Visualization techniques. I recommend a book called Visualization for Change, by Patrick Fanning. It has practical guides to help with most any thing a person would want to change.

Oh and if nothing else, sleepy time tea.

    Hugs!

    Lady Lee,

Perhaps a bubble bath with some candles and incense around the tub. Some good wine, music and a body massage... will do the trick?

like this is going to freak you out, but i have never had a sleeping problem, my problem is I can't wake up, I am always tired. I have to have at least 10 sleep and in the afternoon around 2 I sleep again for 2-3 hours.

There are days were I have slept the entire day. I went through three years of sleeping around the clock. My body craves sleep. I don't know why, but it could be because of the auto immunity disease or chronic fatique syndrome added to that fibromyalgia and all the other arthritis' I have. And although I am in constant pain even in my sleep because I feel it yet I know I am asleep. I know that sounds really weird doesn't it?

    No doctor can expain it.

Yesterday I went out on my scooter and was gone for four hours looking at antiques and when I got home I bathed in hot bath and then I laid down and by 9pm I feel into a deep sleep and heard nothing, not even M arco when he came to bed, I woke up this morning because someone called at 7:30 am, I could have screamed at the therapist but I was to tired to bother.

I do concur with Puternut as his remedey is the best. a nice long bubble bath and bath salts of lavender and a nice warm drink and candles and then get into your favourite sleepy pj and tuck yourself into bed with a favourite stuffed animal and before you know it you'll drift in to a deep sleep. Also a few droplets of essense of lavender on the pillow or sheets is a soothing effect to induce sleep

Wishing all of you that have sleeping problems I hope you can get some relief and get the rest your body needs. Also one important thing I forgot to mention was by listening to soothing music at bed time is fantastiv, just set your timer on your stereo set and keep it low and then drift into the land of winkin blinkin and nod.

    Good luck all.

    Winken, Blinken and Nod

    by Eugene Field, 1850-1895.
found in the Oxford Book of Children's Verse.

Winken, Blinken, and Nod one night
Sailed off in a wooden shoe --
Sailed off on a river of crystal light,
    Into a sea of dew.
"Where are you going, and what do you wish?"
The old moon asked the three.
"We have come to fish for the herring fish
    That live in the beautiful sea;
Nets of silver and gold have we!"

    Said Winken,
    Blinken,
    And Nod.

The old moon laughed and sang a song,
As they rocked in the wooden shoe,
And the wind that sped them al night long
    Ruffled the waves of dew.
The little stars were the herring fish
That lived in the beautiful sea --
"Now cast your nets wherever you wish --
    Never afeard are we";
So cried the stars to the fisherman three:

    Winken,
    Blinken,
    And Nod.

All night long their nets they threw
To the stars in the twinkling foam --
Then down from the skies came the wooden shoe
    Bringing the fisherman home;
'Twas all so pretty a sail it seemed
As if it could not be,
And some folks thought 'twas a dream they'd dreamed
Of sailing that beautiful sea --
But I shall name you the fishermen three:

    Winken,
    Blinken,
    And Nod.

Winken and Blinken are two little eyes,
And Nod is a little head,
And the wooden shoes that sailed the skies
    Is the wee one's trundle-bed.
So shut your eyes while mother sings
    Of wonderful sights that be,
And you shall see the beautiful things
As you rock in the misty sea,
Where the old shoe rocked hte fisherman three:

    Winken,
    Blinken,
    And Nod.

I never sleep through the night.. haven't for a couple years..

I used to come on the computer and play a game like cubis or solitare.. or post.. or chat with those online from other countries and awake and online.. then when I was tired, I'd go back to sleep..

but since my bf moved in, well he seems to wake up before me and is already here online so now I'm stuck there laying awake..I hate that..we really need two computers

Really sorry to hear that you have that problem - I too can raise my hand to having had sleep issues for many years. Really depressing at times and deeply frustrating.

I try to just give into it now and try and beat the blues it brings.

I have a handful of sleeping tablets but rarely use them, as they make me feel like pooh for hours after waking.

I also have a cupboard full of herbs that help from time to time - Passion Flower / Hops / Valerian / Limeflower.

I tell you one thing that did knock me out consistently and that was Cannabis, but I do not use that anymore due to my addiction with it. I got hooked on it and would bomb myself into oblivion each night, which represented a problem within itself. Evenutally I became accustomed to only getting a good nights sleep when zapped on weed.

The psychology is the issue for me. I just get into a phase of mind where I think I will not sleep and then I don't.

It is good to know that many of us suffer with this in a way, as it helps to know that many are muddled and fuzzy through the day.

In my own case I am waiting for a miracle to lift this curse !!

I know that you have probably heard a million "cures"

...and now to make it one million and one cures...

Soak your feet in pure peanut oil. Lightly massage if helpful. Yes, I actually recommend purchasing several bottles of the stuff so that you can have a bath in it (at least for the feet). Soak as long as you like, say a half hour each day. If you don't want to soak, then use small amounts in regular massage. Don't be tempted to add anything to the oil, keep it pure as can be. You will not see results for at least 3 weeks. If you had the funds, I would actually recommend filling up an entire bath tub full of peanut oil and having a good soak each day. (Note: Just as the external body can always use peanut oil, so too will the alimentary canal never tire of olive oil. As good as peanut oil is for the external body, it can be harmful if ingested - so don't ingest it....ever!)

Get someone to massage the small of your back (and your entire body), again with the peanut oil. This will stimulate the nerves throughout most of the body. Don't be tempted to use aromatic oils or traditional massage oils containing blends - use pure peanut oil - it is actually a food for the skin and the nerves in particular - other oils are not food for the skin.

PS. Avoid artifitial sweeteners in the 900 range. They can and will effect the nervous system in general... although I suspect that isn't the case here. Would just hate to see you compound the problem. Also, stuff in the 900 range is good for killing ants... just thought you'd want to know. I'm rambling now.
