Lady Lee, I know how you feel. I didnt go to sleep until 6:00 am this morning and had been awake for over 19 hours. I usually like to take a little nap in the late afternoon, just a few minutes but have not been able to do that. Everything I do this last week is a major chore, I find myself so exhausted but I havent done near what I usually do.

I have to take my son to the mall today and I was dreading it so much, I guess that is why I couldnt not sleep. At 6 this morning I had enough,,,,,,I took 50mg of Deseryl, ( trazadone) and was out before I knew it. The good thing about this medicine is that it can be taken in very low doses for insomnia and is an antidepressant, not a narcotic or benzodiapine,,,,,,,so not addictive in that sense. I am trying to stay off the addictive meds for a while and working on cleansing my body with vitamins and herbs. I have done this before and I know my body is going thru a detox period, where it gets worse and then I will see getting better if I stay with the vitamins.

    * NOTE*,,,,,,,,,if any men are thinking of trying deseryl (trazadone) please read the side effects first. There are some scarey side effects that if I were a man,,,,, I wouldnt even think about taking the chance with this med.

((((( Lady Lee ))))) Sorry to hear this.

Is there anyone who can give you a massage, before heading to bed? We take turns in our house giving each other shoulder and or foot massages before retiring, even the kids.

Re the chronic pain. Is it possible to get a medicine pump in Manitoba? I recall reading an article about it's use in B.C. where the patient, can administer the amount of medication they require, based on the severity of the pain.

Lady Lee - very sorry to hear about your chronic pain and lack of sleep. It is a vicious cycle!

Don't have much to say on the pain side - however, my wife and I found 5-HTP to be helpful in sleeping and overall reducing stress.

We take it with some Passion Flower extract

We have been really pleased with the combo of supplements.

    Best wishes

Sorry to hear you can't sleep((( Lady Lee))) I agree that the pain should be sorted out..perhaps you could try another chiropractor? if the nerve cannot be released and this is going to be something you have to live with, god forbid; you could try hypnotherapy...

My friend tried this as she'd passed her driving test but lost her confidence-she had'nt driven fr 15 years and got in the car after the 2nd session and drove ! If she was'nt driving by the third she had the rest free until she was...this is offered for all treatments, and never needed.....she's very good. Its just the power of auto suggestion. She also gives you a tape of the meeting (oh, no, flashback to wtbs lol) to play at home to reinforce if you feel you need it.

I know some people are hesitant about using it-but lots of friends have now beento this woman, one for pain relief and it's worked! The hypnotherapist can 'block' the thought that there is pain, and as your brain has to receive these messages to be able to register 'it' as 'pain', if you block the messages subconciously then you will feel none.

then maybe you'll get some sleep.....

.I don't usually sleep until 2-3am and wake about 7-8 though lately ive been waking at 630-so I only get 3-4 hours a night.....when my pain starts, which I have twice a month for 1-2 days I can't sleep at all; ive got some great tablets but can only take three a day.So I may ask the hypnotherapist if she can help me.It's got to be worth a try and ive heard nothing but praise.

    good luck

Well I went to the clinic and saw someone.

He suggested I try Valdecoxib (Bextra) and gave me a prescription and some samples (12). I need to take this instead of the ibupofen but continue with the Elavil. This is a non-steriod anti-inflammatory med so I suppose is that he hopes it reduces the pain enough that the Elavil will work and I can sleep.

I have been using some relaxation and visulaizations to numb the pain but it seems once it gets beyond a certain level not much will work.

I think too that many doctors here are afraid to give a new client some stronger meds. Too many people are in the hunt for powerful meds to feed their addictions. So I will try this and see what happens.

    Thanks for all your ideas

I hope it helps Lee. I never sleep well but my extent of sleep problems is not as bad as yours..

I didn't get much sleep last night however... so I am rather silly from lack of brain rest today

Well haven't heard anything for a while from Lady Lee. I hope she's sleeping

Tip toes out of the room.

    well well well

Yesterday afternoon I slept from 11 am - 6 pm (That was before I took the new meds)

I took my nice little pill at midnight and by 2:30 I was sleeping - no pain

Slept intil 6 am when the cats started meowing in my ear and walking over my body to get their breakfast.

I'm actually surprised I slept that much considering my long snooze in the afternoon.

I've been up since 6 am (now 2:30 and am feeling fairly good. The pain is back to its normal levels which I can handle. I had a bit of a drowsy period this morning but was out doing shopping etc so couldn't take a nap. I hope to stay awake until a reasonable time tonight and try to go to bed at the latest midnight. I need to change my schedule a bit for when I go to Montreal on Thursday.

I'm definitely feeling less stressed which in itself a very good sign.
