Just a bit o' Friday afternoon fluff.

A question for the 'Mericans, of which we have one or two here.

You've probably communicated with more Brits here than you had in all your life before joining this board.

Leaving aside the stereo type Brit of the movies, stiff upper-lip, unarmed policemen, Morris Minors and Mini's, are we just as you expected us to be?

Are we better or worse, friendlier or colder, bigger or smaller, whatever, than you expected?

What do you like about us? What don't you like about us?

    Englishman, neck right out...

    Mike:
You'd best qualify for them whether or not you mean "English Brits" (just meaning that part of Britain encompassing the slightly greater landmass down below - the veritable "big ass" of Britain) or "British Brits" (encompassing the whole of the British Isles)...

LT - "Scot, Brit, and European" class

(edited format, to make it slightly more readable... I hope)

Aren't you all exactly like John Cleese?

I buy a lot of British movies, mini-series, and sit-coms and have watched them many times over - can't get enough of the accent and the quaint looking villages and beautiful landscapes.

Talking to you folks here I find a broad range of personalities naturally and I have not noticed that you lot seem different than I might have expected - except for your eye-opening views of American government! It's been good to hear about those.

One thing I have found odd, though - none of you seem to have any accent - except for Celtic...his comes through loud and clear. I would dearly love to hear your voices in reality.

    Beautiful people, the British.

Nina and I have been very good friends for 20 years with a delightful elderly couple who live in Weybridge. Their children are our age and we've had them over to our house and visited them in the Mother Country several times. Their daughter, Lorraine and her hubby Greg, turned me on to Typhoo tea and L'Phroaig scotch whiskey.

Personally I love England and Scotland. Everything is so green. Coming from Texas, that's a nice change. I love the weather, and the people (for the most part) are so polite and kind. I like the pubs, much better than the bar atmosphere here. Pubs seem to be more laid back, less intense than a bar (and the beer is better). One of my favourite memories was visitng Edinburgh (love Holyrood House) and falling asleep listening to the wind howl outside my hotel window.

I think people are people, irrespective of where they live. I think oftentimes we find our own level, i.e. people who mirror our personality.

I lived in sheffield for about a year. I had a great time. The people, although dubbish, were friendly and welcoming. The girls at school were fascinated with my accent. What I wouldn't give to go back without my dubbie morals and, er... help mend the recent rift in Anglo American relations.

Welsh girls are by far the prettiest girls I've ever seen, anywhere, except for the czarina, and she's part welsh. But pound for pound, welsh girls are prettier than any I've ever met before. I hope that if I get into the US navy I get posted to Caernarfon...

You forgot pompus and bad teeth.

    ...and I can't fully answer as I can't see your teeth -

[ All kidding aside - damn fine pilots you Brits! - "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few" ]

I think the accents and manner of speech are very attractive.

I lived in England for a few years so I had my ideas about Brits (Scottish, Irish and English are all rather different) before I got to this board. In person I found them, in general, rather more Mike Leigh than Jon Cleese (don't get me wrong, I love Mike Leigh) but you guys on this board are pretty darn funny.
