but the presentation to the householder made it sound as though they were helping out deaf people in some way

If they want to help people, they can start in their own congregation, by helping the poor and the sick.

What they'll say just to get a conversation going...then turn it into a bible study.

I was kicking myself after because I was thinking of lots of stuff I should have said How come you cant never think of things at the time.

LOL Ang.....I can relate to this.

I didn't realise they have done this type of campaign before as some have mentioned.

Why don't they just say "we are bible students looking to contact the deaf?"

My sister in law learned sign language and worked with the deaf JW's. They did that, looking for deaf people to put in a special "deaf territory".

They should just go to the door and ask to speak with anyone who is dumb.

Sounds like they have a new deaf "toy" to play with. Anytime JWs get someone in their congregation who is *ahem* different, they exploit them to the extreme.

I remember when we had a deaf JW show up at out congregation... all of the sudden everyone was running around looking for deaf people who could be talked to by the new deaf JW.

The same thing for some Vietnamese JWs who once showed up at our congregation... all of the sudden everyone was running around looking for Vietnamese for the new JW to talk to.

It?s a preaching fad... and underhanded if you ask me. JWs are very prone to get caught up in fads, pyramid schemes and ?natural? treatments that can cure just about anything.

When I was a dub 20 years ago they were doingthis. The thing is that especially in areas where there is a school for the deaf and a large deaf community most deaf people have their names listed in the deaf telephone book. All the deaf brothers in the cong had one of these but they were still required to knock on doors looking for deaf people. Heck I had one even when I was working with the deaf community after I left the borg. But that was not used.

The deaf community (actullay two French and English) was large and well organized. Most knew who the JWs were and avoided them.

this doesn't surprise me. I am sure, just as was already mentioned, they are setting up deaf territories, just like they do spanish or other language territories..and then they would look at it two fold, find the people in the specified group, and once they have their information, talk to the ones you are getting information from before you leave...

The campaign is done in a similar manner they did with special tracts. They left out the details of who they are and what their message was, and simply said " were stopping by to leave people a free tract and here is your copy." This worked well as it didn't give people a chance to say no, and it gave the dub a reason to return.

The dubs have downed various churches for hiring clowns and various means to gather listeners, yet fail to see their own tactics are simply another means of gaining people......except the dubs hide their intent on the first call. At least in christendom you KNOW you get to see a clown

I've noticed a certain militancy associated with deaf congregations, I've always wondered if it was going to result in a major dust up with the Organization.
