Do you believe that telling a lie is generally no big deal? Do you try not to lie? I know some that will speak the truth no matter how much it might hurt. I know others that lie so much they actually start believing their own false stories.....Does telling a lie bother you?

I don't lie, do you believe me?

I'm an honest person, maybe too honest at times. I learned that even the witnesses and elders do lie once in a while, to protect the organization and themselves.

I think that lying is a BIG deal. My kids are in more trouble when they lie. If the do something wrong and tell the truth about it then the punishment will be less severe (ex: the time-out will be shortened). I have been know to lie now and then, but I really feel very guilty afterwards. I try to avoiding lying in general.

Depends on the lie. I've never been comfortable telling an outright whopper, but I'm OK with "white lies". I think there's a big difference between lying about "Wow! That color looks great on you!" vs. lying about "No, Honey ... I have not been bumping uglies with your sister."

I see that a lot of people lie without even ever giving it a 2nd thought. Perhaps I have to lie more too. Forget about "love believes all things".

the whole ironic thing was we were told as JWs to never ever lie (unless of course it was to safe the life of our brothers/sisters in a time of persecution).. but not even white lies..
and yet we were taught to teach the biggest lies of all..

I don't believe you should ever, ever lie..........unless you are absolutely certain you can get away with it.

The only person who never tells any kind of lie at any time is DEAD.
That out of the way, I have lied in my time. E.g., I am not 59. Does that mean people shouldn't believe me? If the information is important, get a second or third opinion/source.

Why bother worrying about the consequenses of telling a lie?
Just follow the Watchtower example: change the definition of the word "lie" so that your deception is no longer a "lie" -- according to your new definition:
http://quotes.watchtower.ca/lie.htm
LIE
The opposite of truth. Lying generally involves saying something false to a person who is entitled to know the truth and doing so with the intent to deceive or to injure him or another person. A lie need not always be verbal. It can also be expressed in action, that is, a person may be living a lie.

Especially serious have been the religious lies, as they have endangered the future life of persons deceived by them. Said Jesus Christ: "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you traverse sea and dry land to make one proselyte, and when he becomes one you make him a subject for Gehenna twice as much so as yourselves." (Mt 23:15) The exchange of God's truth for "the lie," the falsehood of idolatry, can cause a person to become a practicer of what is degrading and vile.-Ro 1:24-32.
[?]
While malicious lying is definitely condemned in the Bible, this does not mean that a person is under obligation to divulge truthful information to people who are not entitled to it.

It is my hope that every lawyer fighting the Watchtower is able to use this to discredit the testimony of any and every WT official, elder, or other JW.
