A lot of the bigger city venues have in the lease agreement that you must use their concessions. The WTS of course didn't want that. Ever notice that the WTS liked to use smaller cities for conventions? Easier to negotiate with.

This is very interesting! I wondered why they no longer use the convention center here. They do it in Selkirk now. The WTS has created a real inconvenience for people. No food at the conventions, having to travel farther distances to attend conventions.

The next year, the city asks for concession sales and the WTS says "We don't need concessions"

Sorry if this is a dumb question: Why don't they just accept the consessions at the venues????? What the hell is wrong with that????

...Other than there will be no legal way to prevent some of "the friends" from getting a burrito during a session.

Never mind, I just answered my own question.... :)

The only "simplification" arrangement they need to do is to throw the governing body out on their asses and let them use their own god-given food consciences to decide how, when and where to eat.

That's about all I have to say about that.

It all comes down to the flow of money and where it ends up.

    • If they allow concession stands to sell food, the WTS's donations will go down because people will spend money on the concessions instead of putting the money in the donation boxes.
    • If the WTS sells the food on their own they will have to pay taxes causing people to spend money on taxes instead of putting the money in the donation boxes.

It all comes down to money. In the upper levels of authority in the WTS, everyone knows that the conventions are nothing more than fund raising events. The long boring talks are just a side effect.

It's not a dumb question. It's a great question. Why not just use the concessions? Maybe their concerned with the concessions being open the entire day, tempting the dubs to go out and get a Coke and a hotdog instead of listening to the visiting Bethel speaker. I'd think they could negotiate that the concessions be open only before and after sessions.

I have heard that the WTS doesn't want "worldly" types mingling in with the dubs and this is what you would get if "worldly" concessions are used. Not a very good argument to me. Wouldn't this be the perfect time to "give a good witness"(tm) to these unfortunate ones who might not otherwise have heard the good news?

Edited to say: I just read Elsewhere's comment. I like his answer better.

    LOL @ Farkel and Mary!

Don't they advertise their conventions to the local communities that they are good for their businesses as well? If everyone brings their luch, then the only thing the local community is going to get is BAD TRAFFIC. Now that might be able to shut their conventions down.

Street vendors and assembly picketing. As some of you know I'm the,WT$'s,"Picketer from Hell". One of the advantages for patronizing the street vendors outside the facility, was keeping picketers at bay. As a courtesy,I would occupy a location away from the vendors,as the dubs were ordered to avoid me at all cost. If there are no vendors,I'll have the prime locations.

I'm politically active in my town and we have a 5,000 seat facility, local merchants depend on delegate patronage and they WON"T like 'cheap' Dubs.Bad PR all around.

Why don't they just get it over with and tell everyone to fast, just like the Israelites did during similar holy times? What better way to show your heartfelt appreciation of Jehovah's spiritual banquet than by sacrificing the physical one? Surely, this is a small sacrifice when compared to Jesus 40 days in the wilderness without food. Logically, if our aim is to truly walk in Jesus' footsteps, we will "consider it all a joy" to forgo physical sustenance and focus on the spiritual feast provided by the slave class.
