Im just pointing out that if the Government can put enough trust in me not to drink and drive then it should trust me not to shoot people with a firearm. Especially since drunken driving kills more people each year than guns.

Owning a firearm is not detrimental. Neither is drinking alcohol. It is what you decide to do with them which can cause problems.

Simple. You claim that civilians owning guns is bad. I am making the point that if Blacks would have be allowed to own guns there would have been no slavery. I guess you are stating that allowing slavery is better than allowing gun ownership.

whether gun ownership might have prevented slavery (it was not a question of allowing them to have guns but the simple fact thet they were living in the stone age and were viewed as primitive apelike creatures) has absolutely no bearing on this question - which is wheter in the current society it is good or bad that guns are kept by the population.
