Even if we stayed home from the meetings for whatever reason, I still wasn't allowed to watch TV or go and hang out with my friends.
Boy, did that suck.

on meeting nights at the meeting .. there was
no farting
no picking your nose
no talking to anyone behind you, beside you or in front of you.
no kicking the chair
no snickering
no unlimited bathroom use.
sit down and shut up was the norm for most kids I guess.

Star Trex made it's debut in 1967 ALWAYS on Thursday nite meeting..
My debut with severe ulcerative colitis made it's debut Sept.1970.Five years before armageddon. The two and a half hour session usually involved at least 4 urgent trips to the restroom.I had just turned 13 and nobody could comprehend how anybody could possibly make so many trips.
The only thing worst than a boy with IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) is a girl with IBD.
My mom and I always ate out on Thursday nights as she didn't get home from work until 5:30 and didn't have time to make a meal. I remember we BOTH rushed out right at 9:00 so we could make it home to watch "Cheers" at 9:30.
I really did not have very many rules imposed on me by my mother except for making sure I was ready so we could arrive 30 minutes before the meeting started.
My self-imposed rule was "no wanking" in the shower before the meeting so as to avoid the guilt. I just knew they would all know what I did just before the meeting.

Gee, we never had a TV so that wasn't an issue on meeting nights. We all had to take baths after milking the animals (cows and goats) so we wouldn't smell like the barn yard at MS. Sunday was a challenge because I tried to get lost so I didn't have to go out in field service or attend the meeting in the pm. As luck would have it, it was a lose-lose situation because if they left without me I got a whale of a beating afterwards.. hard to say which was worse sitting through the boring drivel or taking the beating..

What couldn't you do on meeting nights?
It got to the point where I could barely walk in the door of the KH - and eventually couldn't get out of the car once we pulled in the parking lot.
SadElder ~ I too, would not have a glass of wine with dinner on mtg nights for fear someone would think I'd been drinking.
My mother was a pioneer and had the keys to the KH. She used that as an excuse to be at the meeting 45 minutes to an hour early. Really, she just didn't want to deal with my father, so she would leave as early as possible. It completely sucked being there before anyone else. She would start hounding me about getting ready almost immediately after I got home from school. I loved it when I turned 16 and got a job at the local McDonald's. I would deliberately get shifts scheduled on meeting nights. I do have a couple of good memories though. My mother would stop off at the nearby liquor store before the meetings and load up on hard candy. I swear we would eat 10 rolls of life savers (mmmm cinnamon) per meeting. Afterwards, we would try to get home before 20/20 or Cheers came on and I would make home made tortilla chips and salsa. And NO, I don't weigh 400 pounds, but I should ;-)
I was not allowed to Flog the Frog on meeting nights.....Oh wait-That was a no-no my whole life!!!
