This is the first time I have seen the term "resume" be used in connection with applying for Bethel.

Once apon a time all you needed was a few years of pioneering and preferable male and single. Guess it's all changed now, huh?

    Good for you!!

I "stormed" out (ok, walked out) of the memorial one year. The elder giving the talk strayed from the usual rehearsed outline & stated that those in attendance who didn't regularly attend meetings would not be saved from Armageddon if they only attended this meeting.

    Seeya!

Reminds me of my cousin's husband. They used to sit behind us at the KH, and when he, my husband and myself were trying to be good, and not be too disgusted with all the FDS worship (my cousin was still a loyal dub), he would often emit a loud sigh, and get up and walk out. He would come back to pick her up. We didn't know for a long time that he actually left. We thought he was at the back somewhere.

By the way, for those who don't know our story, we stayed for nearly two years trying to fade away.........and we did. My cousin? She saw the light finally, and is disfellowshipped. How's that for irony?

my take on that meeting was simple.

    we need more drones.

oh, and you have to give'em credit for the age discrimination.
who else has the balls to state that in print and get away with it.

    sheeeesh.

My husband was convinced to not attend college b/c of articles like that. His dream was crushed and then he was pushed into attending Bethel. So he met all the requirements, went to Bethel, and was sent home two months later. We heard later that the PO's wife, the biggest gossip around, had called Bethel to tell them that he had a girlfriend (me). Apparently, she thought this would cause some problems for us. Instead, we got engaged a few days after he came home.

When we got married we had a big financial struggle and ended up living with my parents for 3.5 years. My husband started attending college not long after our son was born. It has been a long struggle for us.

If he had gone to college when he first wanted we would not have to struggle so much. Sometimes he still feels bitter about that whole situation.

I worked with a Medical/Nuclear Physicist a few years ago, who offered me a place on a degree course. i was tempted, but felt that i would not be able to cope with studying for a degree course and study for meetings, ministry, etc etc. At the time i was also missing many KH meetings because of meetings with merchant bankers/hospital managers etc etc - and of course this was frowned on.

I declined his offer, and eventually left my job with the thought of regular pioneering.

A fews year down the line and i now regret that decision - I never did regular pioneer (one month auxilary was enough).

I have now left the JWs, due to other reasons, and am now back in full time employment, with a chance to obtain some qualifications in a specialised field of Health Service. i am loving every minute of it!!

Enjoy your life, it is the only one you'll have.

Just wondering? Is there a problem getting enough recruits for Bethel service these days? Does anyone have any insight on this, such as numbers of new volunteers coming in versus numbers leaving?

    Latte:

I liked your quote. I did the pioneer thing and feel like AmazingProgeny. Your quote truly struck chord with me.

I liked your quote so much that I 'cut & paste' dumped it into Sue's "Apostates" thread AS A PROPHECY. No real comments, just dumped it. In a sense of poetic justice, I felt it belonged there, when someone mentioned PROPHECY.

    How's that for storming out?

    Lookingnow22,

I hope you got something to be proud since you left Bethel.

    Fred,

Thanks for the concern, but I've never worked at Bethel. You must have mistook what I said.
