What Was Your Opinion Of Ronald Reagan???

Being a product of a public education system dominated by liberals (of the teachers that I had in Jr. High and Sr. High, I only remember 2 that I could consider conservative) of 13 when Mr. Reagan was elected president. I remember going to bed the night Reagan was elected praying to Jehovah (crying during my prayer) that Jehoveh would protect us from this war monger.

During my years in Sr.High, I was taught how to hate Reagan and all the evil Republicans for what they did to this country. Although one fact always stood out in my mind. My dad always seemed a little happier on April 15 after Reagan got into office, and we had more money to do things around that time then from when I remember during President Carter's years. We were by NO MEANS rich. My father owned a janitorial business, and what amounts to a catering truck. However, we were comfortable.

After I got out of the mind control of the WTS and liberal teachers. I began to read what Reagan stood for. It made sense to me, and when I registered to vote in 1992, I registered Republican. My main reason for that is not that I was or am rich, but that I want to be one day. That whatever money I earn by working harder than the other guy, I get to keep, not the government. That I decide where I should spend, give or invest that money for the maximum benefit.

President Reagan was a flawed man, no doubt about it. However, when you campare him to his three successors, the shoes he left are noticably empty. This is a man that viewed everyday as the Fourth of July. I have tried to live my life by that motto. That there is something special at the end of every day.

Simply put, Ronald Reagan was an American legend.

Reagan was a good president...not a great one, a good one.

He served at the time he was probably needed most. Reagan during the 1960's would have been total catastrophe.

He did use television well, a lesson he took from Kennedy and Clinton took from him.

He doesn't deserve credit alone for ending to cold war, although he did get the save.

I read Cal Thomas mention that Reagan made mistakes, but too few to mention. I wouldn't go that far (Iran-Contra, ignoring AIDS, Massive Deficits).

I fear he gets lionized waaaay too much by the Conservative punditry. Putting him on Rushmore or the $10 bill is overboard. that should only be reserved for presidents who have stood a lengthy test in history. (For God's sake, FDR only got the dime, and no one has made a peep in his favor since).

My guess is that he'll go down much like Ike did in the long run.

He gave birth to the modern conservative movement, which would have been OK if they hadn't brought Jerry Falwell along for the ride.

He dealt with Osama and was literally caught napping on Iran Contra, which reminded us that the ends (defeating Communism) don't justify the means (subverting the Constitution).

I wouldn't have voted for him once, and many of his causes I opposed. But many of his results were positive.

It wouldn't be off to call him the Clinton of the 80's.

What makes you say that? Did you actually read the thread? For the most part, even the liberals had some positive things to say about Reagan.

In the 80's I wasnt supposed to have any political oppinions, however I always respected the man a great deal. Without him we may still be involved in a 'cold war' against Russia, the Berlin wall may not have come down and "Frankie Goes To Hollywood" would never have produced one of the best music video's ever with "two tribes" showing Reagan and Gorbachev fighting it out in a ring fight.

Seriously though, I respected his politics, and think he will be remembered in history as a great president.

    I'm a conservative because of Reagan...so there ya go. I really don't see this as having to be a cons/lib debate either. Roosevelt was a Lib...but a great man...Reagan a cons...but a great man.

"He-was-such-a-great-president" is the flavor of the day. I'm not sure whether I agree or disagree, I think it's too soon to judge. He was very presidential though, a self-made man, not like the current dweeb.
