When you can responsibly face the possible outcomes, no matter what those might be: AIDS, pregnancy, emotional attachment, a pissed off father/boyfriend/husband, stains on your car seats ... the list goes on.

My daughter is 13 going on 14....I've sat her down and talked to her openly...one thing I've said was, I would prefer for her to wait until she is married, that is ideal, but not realistic, however, I don't want her to be with every guy she dates. I told her it is something special, and if it's not with the right person, it really is not very enjoyable, atleast not for the girl (speaking from experience)....I advised her to wait until she is in her 20's....or with someone she really feels good with....I also asked her to talk to me before she ventures forward.....she said she would....I can only request it and hope she will....:)

Good advice here, I would echo Sirius Dogma, Big Tex and Crazy in particular. Especially because they are guys, and can understand where you're coming from far more than I. Just to let you know from the female POV, I was 20 myself before I had consensual sex (intercourse), although I did some necking and petting in my teen years.

OC, I have read you since your first post, had one (all too brief) chat, and I must say that you have an extremely level head, especially for a teen, but no matter what age we're talking about. Right on! I hope you realize that.

I'm with Talesin. I have also spent a lot of time with you in chat, and I think very highly of your mature attitude. The fact that you would even think to ask this question instead of just running off to do it just 'cuz you can - AND the fact that you think it best in marriage - says a lot about a 16-year-old. Because of conversations we have had, I do not believe that YOU think you are ready for sex. And I agree with you. It is so important to be able to handle the responsibilities that go along with it, as so many in here have suggested, and it is also very important to know that you have a mutual love and respect for one another before committing this act of intimacy. Rushing it can ruin everything - trust me - I've been there.

Another thing to add - be PROUD of your decision to wait until marriage - you will not believe the amount of respect you will gain for it.
