as far as contributions go... they now assign your congregation an "area" to sit in, well they are assigned to clean that "area" but if you gotta clean it usually you sit near it.. i just wonder if they do that so they can watch who donates like they do in the KH.( referring to elders in my family who were "watchers" their job was to watch at the meetings to see who was donating.) it may all be touted as being voluntary but dang your freakin scared not to donate. especially the men.. if they dont donate they might be passed up for "privelges"!

What's next the requirement of tithing? The funny thing is that this is a Borg that consistently prided itself on the fact that they never asked for donations (BULLSPIT!!!!!!!!!!!! Remember the letters to buy Furman St.), or pass a collection plate (True, but we'll place the extortion, errrrrrrr, contribution boxes at strategic places).

They cant cut out distict assemblies altogether, because it is the prime instigator of the JW mating ritual, also it gives witnesses a feeling of solidarity. They must have new witnesses and they can only do that by getting witnesses to marry other witnesses.

"A special thank you to the person who made an individual contibution of $500."

How long do you think it will be before they start naming their contributors...A special thanks to brother..IMSOPOOR for contributing $500.00 .Yes brothers inspite of being confined to an iron lung since the age of 10 and living on welfare and food stamps he still put"kingdom interests first"? We wish to also thank the many THOUSANDS who contributed $100.00 including the young lad who gave his allowance gladly to further the"interests of God's kingdom." In talking to this young lad he remarked...at first I wanted to buy video games with the money but I soon realized video games can not give you "everlasting life"? How blessed I feel to be able to contribute to the world wide preaching work now taking place. I only wish I had more to give !!!

RE: concession stands and parking fees

When I was attending assemblies at the Astrodome in the 80's, we had to pay parking every day ($4.00). If these venues started requiring concession sales etc then you know the WTS would yank the assemblies 'cuz that's less money for the contribution boxes. Plus, you can't bring your own food when concession stands are open (usually).

Do y'all remember when we used to get off early on Thursday to go out in service in the local area?? What a joke. We always kicked it by the pool or went to Astroworld that afternoon and tried to hook up w/ some chicks from the assembly.

    Astroworld....what a what place.

I was at the AstroDome for the International Convention that released My Book of Bible Stories. I also remember what a drag it was to leave that place just to go outside.

Interesting thread. I would think that District Conventions would be done away with, since this cost the Society big bucks and they don't get anything in return. Assemblies on the other hand do well, as the property is already owned.

Personally, they didn't have to do away with the subscriptions. Many religious organizations are non-profit and ask for a set price to cover the cost ... "this book can be yours for the suggested donation of $19.95." Some religious publishing houses like the SDA's Review and Herald, charge a hefty price for their books. If the Society sold their books at retail prices, people would still buy them.

Perhaps they'll downsize, and sell more of Brooklyn.

Then again, the dubs may get new light on tithing ... lol

i thought they did away with subscriptions so apostates couldnt get ahold of the literature as easily.

I understand their going to go into the credit business. Offering the "Watchtower Visa/Mastercard" Every time you use it, you rack up field service time.

    got my forty homey?

Its been many a year since I was invovled with anything in the Society, but I remember a fall and winter circuit assembly and then the summer conventions. When I was a boy they were four days long, then cut to two and half days and now I think just two days.

Circuit assemblies now take place only once a year(?) and they is a one day special event day?

I dont know its what my parents tell me.
