I am wondering if the cutting back of the number of days for conventions is more the fact that the society realizes that they can pack the same crap in 3 days that they used to do in 5 days. They save on money for rental costs and probably get the same monetary contributions. I know from the last few DC conventions I went to they still make the same brain washing points to all the good dubs in 3 days. Be good, watch your worldly assocation, pioneer, Jehoba loves you, more money for the work etc.

The society's decision to build the residency buildings in DUMBO suggests that they are going to "dump" some of the prime real estate in Brooklyn Heights. They own the Standish hotel on Columbia Heights, the Bossert on Montague, and the Towers Hotel on Clark Street. Each property is "PRIME" and could go for a Mint. The new building in DUMBO will be built for only the cost of materials.

BTW, does anyone remember the 8 -day assemblies and the Circuit Assemblies that began on Friday evening. From the historic perspective, there has been a significant trimming of assembly time.

I don't think they're going away any time soon.

For example, a few years ago they had the "brothers and sisters" who owned construction business donate their time and labor to remodel the Long Beach Convention Center.

In exchange, they got 10 years of FREE RENT !!!

The longest conventions I remember were the 4 days that began on Thursdays and ended on Sunday.

I think 1979 was a 5-day convention, the last one I remember. I do remember ones at Dodger Stadium, when I was about 5 (1972 or so), that were 6 days, and had three sessions.

You know what it all boils down too? The Society is all about money. If they were interested in truth then they would exhaust what funds they had for the sake of truth, whether one believes in it or not.

It's no secret on the 'net, I've ben affiliated with teh Bible Students since before the day I left the Society over twelve years ago.

The average Bible Students convention is two days, some are three. There are a few, like the GENERAL CONVENTION, Fort Worth, TX and Indiana/Ohio Convention which is 5 to 7 days each. These conventions are held in University. For instance the Gneral convention is held at Johnstown University, we take over the whole 800 acres. (Not that we use all 800 acres) YOu get breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and snacks. The programs starts at 9:30, 45 minutes talks each, hald hoour intermission between each session. There are talks, studies, sympoiums, debates, panel discussions, vespers and testimony meetings. Sessions officially end around 8:00 to 8:30 pm, with independent studies and fellowship til late in the evenings. Meals are paid for by those attending, there are package deals, which include meals amd lodging. There are sunday schools for youngster of various ages, with women studies.

The food is good, no make that GREAT! The lodging is great like a hotel with cable tv. the works, swimming, etc.

No one is forced to attend all sessions, no one is going to tell you go find a seat. You attend the sessions you want. It's a great environment. It can be quite pricey after a while, because, in any given month there is at least three of four conventions somewhere in the USA. I myself attend at least 20 different conventions a year. And those at=re only the ones I attend, not the ones I speak at.

Now mind you the BIble Students are a small group, but as small as they are they accomodate one another. WIth teh Witnesses, well forget it. They could care less how you get there, just be there and obey the rules. ridiculous!

I was at New York in 1958. 8 days! Sunday thru Sunday. I was 14. It JUST sucked! Circuit assemblies were 3 days WITH three hot meals and band music.

I remember being disappointed when they cut down the number of dramas from 2 or 3? to 1. They relieved the tedium.

I don't know about whether the WTS would cut back DAs, but I bet the JWs would be greatly relieved to be free of them (even though they wouldn't dare admit it to each other, lol)!
