Hi everyone. I'm new and this is my first post. When I was in the truth, I remember how we were encouraged to cultivate a personal relationship with Jehovah. We were to think of him as our friend and to rely on him soley. I must admit, I just wasn't able to do that for some reason, and I still can't. Were any of you able to? Do you feel that way now? I don't even pray anymore. No prayers at night before going to bed and no blessings before meals. They seem like empty rituals to me. Do any of you feel the same?

lol make up a person in your head. Very easy just think of how his face looks how his body looks. How he talks to you. Then become friends with him. See a difference from that being Jehovah or somebody else? You can be quite aquainted with this imaginary friend.

Not to judge but heh that's most likely what most people who did cultivate a friendly relationship with God did. They had a few extra things to base him on. Like him killing thousands of people in the past. Him creating you and everybody around you. So heh pretty much gotta force yourself but you can become friends with "Jehovah".

I never did though. I was totally weird I wanted actual real friends. Im so demonic.

I "pray," occasionally, as my mood fits.

I amuse myself that the Cause of the Universe cares to hear what I might have to say.

    Hello, and WELCOME!!!

While I was in the "Truth", I used to pray all of the time. I tried to make it as heartfelt as I could, and really focus on my prayers to Jehovah. I would lie in bed, and speak to him as if I were speaking to a good friend. That good friend turned their back on me, at a time when I needed them most.

Then I found "The light", and it wasn't what the JW's were teaching, it was the realization that all that I had learned and poured myself into was nothing more than a bunch of rhetoric babble, as regards to the organization.

Now that I am no longer in The "Truth", I pray no more, and really have no desire to. Praying is a spiritual thing, and my days of praying to a higher power are gone, since I no longer have a belief in that supposed higher power.

Hi and Welcome to the forum!

I could never get truly close to Jehovah. I used to feel much closer to Jesus, but of course they say you can't pray to Jesus...

Nowadays I believe in God and I do pray. I do believe that we can have an interactive relationship with god(s) and that is isn't all just one way communication made up in our heads.

Here is my thread on why JWs do not have a personal relationship with God.

It is also important to know if Jesus is Jehovah (along with the Father).

Welcome to the board, Nessy! Regarding your question, yes, I felt as if I had a personal relationship with Jah and that he heard my prayers and that I was receiving holy spirit because I asked for it. I now have come to believe I was praying to myself, and that all the good results from which were actually the product of affirmation and visualization. Nothing has changed since I have stopped praying. Actually, I feel more successful and powerful than ever (in my own little world). So yeah, I do feel the same as you. Again, welcome and don't be a stranger.

I have a wondeful relationship with God. He answers my prayers, and helps me in life. These are not mere coincidences but God actively at work in my life.
